Defense Grid Becomes a Board Game. You can back it on KICKSTARTER!
Two years ago, we heard from some local Seattle, WA board game designers. They had a tower defense board game they were working on, and wanted to know if they could show it to us. They wondered if we'd consider licensing the Defense Grid property to them for their board game. It was an unusual request.
To be open, we weren't sure what to think at first. We love board games. We love Defense Grid. But, Defense Grid has so many things happening in the simulation behind the scenes, we didn't see how it would translate well to board game play.
Suffice it to say, the Forged by Geeks folks showed up at our doorstep, pulled out their prototype boards and pieces, demonstrated their game designs, and over the next two years, they not only showed us how it could be done, they convinced us that it HAD to be done.
TODAY, that dream is a reality - and YOU can actually BACK their Kickstarter - a Kickstarter that already successfully funded - just 31 hours after its start a few days ago! You can back these board game aficionados and see this actual Tower Defense Board Game dream make its way to your very own domicile.
Defense Grid: The Board Game is a co-op game experience (or solo experience) with all the art and flavor of the video game. Oh, I haven't yet mentioned the MINIATURES! Each board game box comes with 68 of them. We here at Hidden Path sure like the look of the actual towers sitting there all in a row FOR REALZ with them aiming at dozens of aliens mobs sitting there FOR REALZ.
Anthony and Rico brought several miniatures by the office the other day to show them around, and folks here for some reason kept "wandering" in the conference room "just happening by" and then took a real close look at the physical manifestations of the cool towers they had created in the virtual world. That got people around here pretty excited.
What's most important of course is how it plays, and a gentlemen who goes by the name of Rahdo (we understand that he may play a few board games in front of a camera from time to time) came away fairly impressed himself. That seems to carry some weight too.
Other folks have already reviewed early prototypes of the game, others have met the guys at conventions over the last year and have had a chance to play multiple iterations of the design as it gets finely tuned and ready for manufacture.
We've been super impressed with the work, dedication, and how well they've captured the FEEL of Defense Grid in a board game. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, please check them out and consider backing their cause and getting a game for your very own self!
