Make beautiful portraits of your favorite original characters!
Pictodon puts the power of videogame character customization systems in a standalone application, which you can use to design portraits of your own unique characters.
There are four steps to creating a character portrait in Pictodon. Your settings in each step can be saved as presets for re-use later. That way, you can put the same character in different outfits or poses, or you can create uniforms for use with multiple characters.
Customize your character’s physical characteristics. Shape her face and body. Choose skin color and eye color. Place scars and tattoos.
Pick your character’s hairstyle and makeup. Deck your character out in clothing and accessories.
Choose your character’s pose, facial expression, background, and lighting.
Take a picture of your character, and share with your friends!
Pictodon Art Packs contain all of the great art pieces that you will use to put your character together. Mix and match pieces from different packs to get the look you want!
Starter Packs come bundled with the application, for free, to all licensed users of Pictodon. Every Starter Pack is built around a genre or theme, and includes a variety of art assets, including clothing, backgrounds, decals, props, and accessories.
Art Shop Packs
Looking for a genre not covered in the Starter Packs? Need a set of heraldry decals? Need more hats? Looking for just the right set of goggles? Missing the rakish moustache you want for your musketeer? In the Pictodon Art Shop, you will be able to purchase more delicious art packs! In addition to packs from Hidden Achievement, we will also provide community members an opportunity to share original packs in the shop.
Our Launch Starter Packs
Pictodon will ship with four great Starter Packs of art:
Steampunk? Roman? Space Cowboy? Feudal Japan? Regency England? You, our awesome backers will have an opportunity to vote on the fourth starter pack!
Design a three-dimensional character. This is not a paper doll!
Fine tune the shape of your character’s body and face with intuitive controls.
Choose skin color, eye color, and hair color. We don’t limit your options. If you want green skin, you’ve got it!
Add decals anywhere on your character’s body and clothes. These enable you to place tattoos, scars, heraldry, insignia, and other surface elements on your character. Import your own decals, for even more customization options!
Choose from a variety of hair styles.
Mix and match costume parts, accessories, and props from your art packs.
Choose a background from one of your art packs, or use a solid color or gradient. You can even import your own background, if you prefer!
Pose your character and set the facial expression you want for your portrait.
Select your lighting and shot composition to get just the right mood.
Save your outfits, customizations, and settings for re-use later.
Never pay for upgrades! Your Pictodon license covers all future upgrades and Starter Packs.
Runs on both Mac and PC.
Hidden Achievement is a small indie game studio based in Austin, Texas. It was founded by two veteran game programmers:
Tess has been a game programmer for a decade. Among her titles are "Rift" and "Card Hunter." While she is a generalist, most of her recent work has been in gameplay, AI, server programming, graphics, content pipeline, and UI.
Jason has been a game programmer for fifteen years. Among his titles are "Ultima 9," "Rift," and "Card Hunter." Also a generalist, he has recently been heavily focused in server programming, physics, AI, asset bundling, monetization, and all facets of game deployment.
Our artists have yet to be recruited. Speaking of which...
As an artist, there are two opportunities for you to get involved more directly in Pictodon.

The Art Shop
To clarify what kinds of goodies you’re going to get from the different Kickstarter tiers, we’ve made this handy chart:
* - Reward superceded by a better reward.
Your opinion matters! You will have the chance to vote on the “Backer’s Choice” Starter Pack, and any additional polls that we unlock from stretch goals.
You get a full license for Pictodon that is good for all future upgrades and Starter Packs.
First Party Packs
You will receive vouchers for Library Packs developed by Hidden Achievement. You can choose which Packs you wish to use them for. For those at TYRANNOSAURUS level and above, you will have access to ALL Art Packs ever developed in-house by Hidden Achievement.
You will gain access to Pictodon at least three months before the official release. This will be especially handy for folks who want a head start developing Art Packs.
Sticker & Thank You
You will receive a signed thank-you card, and a special sticker, depicting our mascot, “Don.”
Instead of an Art Print, you will receive a custom, professional, hand-made 11”x13” painting of the character of your choice. How cool is that?
You may request the designated number of specific items to go into one or more of our Starter Packs. For example, you can say, “I want a bowler hat in the Modern Pack,” or “I want a hellish volcanic moonscape background in the Sci-Fi pack,” and we have to give it to you!
1.) It must make sense for the item to appear in the pack that you request it in.
2.) It must not violate anyone else’s intellectual property.
3.) All Starter Pack content must be appropriate for all ages (by USA cultural standards).
4.) It must not be inflammatory or otherwise problematically divisive. We don’t want mass Internet warfare over your contribution.
Instead of making a few item requests, why not request a whole character? Tell us everything about your character (get as detailed as you want), and we’ll create all the art pieces you need to build that character in Pictodon.
NOTE: This is subject to the same rules as Item Requests.
Meet the Team
Meet the team that is building Pictodon! Spend a day playing board games, pen-and-paper RPGs, or videogames with us -- or, get a day-long master class in programming from one of our developers. If you meet us before the project is done, we’ll even give you a tour of our current progress. If you want to meet us in-person, you must provide your own transportation to our location in Austin, Texas. Alternatively, we will be happy to hang out with you online, if you’d prefer. We are already set up to use Roll20, here!
We are currently doing tech demos, to try out some of our technology for making all this work. As soon as we are funded, we’ll be recruiting artists, and going into full development.
If you would like a sneek-peek at our first Tech Demo, watch the video below!
As you can see below, our greatest expense is going to be paying the artists who are making all the great art content for you!
We expect this distribution to remain roughly the same, if we end up raising more funds than we are asking for, since stretch goals will increase costs in all areas.
Risks and challenges
We’re professionals. We have a budget and schedule planned out, but like every piece of software ever created by anyone, we could miscalculate our schedule. You've seen it happen; we've seen it happen. This project involves a bit of research and development. A time slippage is a possibility. If it looks like that is going to happen, we commit to being transparent about what’s going on. As our backers, you have a right to know!
Hypothetically, we could run out of money. If we come up short of funds, for some reason, we have the option of contracting part-time to make ends meet, so we can finish this up. This is too good a project to let it fail, and we really want it to be real, so we're determined to see it through, even if it takes us a little longer.
We may have trouble recruiting artists, and that would potentially delay the project. That’s something you can help us with. We’ll be posting our openings as soon as we fund, and we encourage you to help us get the word out!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
