About this project
Mitch Byrd Women, Dinosaurs and Random Illustrations Sketchbook vol. 1 Kickstarter is designed and published by Bobby Hickey/ SkyStorm
Description: 48 pages of illustrations, Full color wrap around cover.
Goal: Launch a series of Mitch Byrd Sketchbooks to share his works and ideas.
I have the privilege and honor to design and package this collection, Mitch Byrd Women, Dinosaurs and Random Illustrations, from one of the greatest artists I have ever known.
Mitch has been a friend and mentor for the past ten years. We’ve worked together on several projects such as Sketch Magazine, were he shared his ideas on illustrating, and a soon to be released Blood and Roses story.
No one draws women with as much grace and elegance as Mitch, no matter their shape or size. You can’t help but stare and marvel. And no artist puts more thought into dinosaurs, how they moved, why they had certain bone structures and features than Mitch. (We’ve had many conversation about this subject.) Mitch has shared his ideas through illustrations that make dinosaurs come alive as never before. Mitch is a man of few words (unless yo're talking about dinosaurs or sports) but these illustrations from one of modern day's greatest artists speak volumes!
Formats:I would be happy to answer your questions.Unlimited is the cover that you see in the video and on the page. It’s a wrap around cover. This version will be offered to fans at conventions, store signings, retail outlets etc.Limited like the hardcovers, Black & White cover, studio ashcans, etc. means that the run will be limited to a certain number. I would say the hardcovers will be less then 100 copies, Black & White cover around 50 copies and the Studio Ashcans will be limited to the copies that are pledged at Kickstarter. The sketchbook format is 8 ¼” x 10 ¾ perfect binding (square) on a matt finish 90 lb text paper for interiors and the cover will be a semi gloss cardstock. The Studio Ashcan will be standard comic book size, printed on a matt paper 60 lb text with a semi gloss cardstock cover.
Adding A Studio Ashcan: If someone would like to add the Studio Ashcan to a package that it’s not include just add $25.00 to the package price and email me that you want the Studio Ashcan added to your package
Bonus Studio Ashcan:
This includes two never before published stories by Mitch. First is Samurai Skies, a short story about a Japanese Pilot after WW2. The second is Kings of The Road, a future where the super-highway has truly taken over. Both projects were started before Mitch was pulled away by other commitments. Printed standard comic size in black and white with a card stock cover. The pages are representations of Mitch’s finished pencils.
Update 13, 2012
WHAT YOU WON'T SEE IN THE SKETCHBOOK...
So why are we teasing you with these images... we're going to create a private Mitch Byrd Sketchbook page at Skystormstudio.com only to be accessed by the great people who help fund this project at Kickstarter. In this area will be pieces of art that can not be printed and/or private commission piece that Mitch Byrd fans want to share. Once the funding is closed we'll be sending each person who makes a pledge a link to get into the private area.
$8,500.00 We add 8 pages of never before published illustrations making the page count 56. We spend a day with Mitch video-taping him drawing and then we do a Q &A with your questions. We post the videos in an exclusive area for only Kickstarter sponsors to view.
How Kickstarter Works...
Unlike going into your local comic or book Store and picking up a book, Kickstarter offers you the chance to directly support a creator’s project. You’ll be involved through direct post on social medias and the website. Once the project is completed, we‘ll be sending out notices when you will be receiving it along with any incentives you’ve signed on for. One of the great things about Kickstarter is the direct communication between the creator and the reader. Kickstarter is more about supporting ideas, people, and projects than it is to receive an item right away.
Steps to sponsorship:
• Step 1. Create a Kickstarter account, and determine payment method
• Step 2. Decide which Reward you'd like, taking special note of any shipping estimates.
• Step 3. Wait and see what happens! If our campaign is successful then your card will be charged and your reward is secured. If our campaign is unsuccessful, then your card will NOT be charged.
• Step 4. (optional (but also very much needed) ) If you would really like to see this project succeed, then the most helpful thing you could do is help spread the word! Tweets on Twitter, Facebook posts, blog posts, word-of-mouth, whatever you want to do to help, we would truly appreciate it!
We appreciate your support and look forward to getting this archive of illustrations into your hands.
Risks and challenges
There are a few risks with this project. Not reaching our base goal is the major one. We ask if you could help us get the work out about this project and about Mitch's beautiful art; we can not only reach our base goal, but also meet several Stretch Goals.
What isn’t a risk is in the video. I was holding many of the never-before-published pieces of artwork that are scanned and ready for publication. We will deliver on time.
At this time we decided it was better to deliver the Sketchbook on time and stay focused on it. Commissions and Sketch edition can take a longer time frame and demand to much of Mitch's time right now. It's something that we are discussing down the road on future editions.
We are setting up an art gallery to sell his originals that we'll announcing once the bidding is over on this edition.
