HOME GROWN FOOD PRODUCTS
Home Grown Food Products (HGFP) produces and sells superb-tasting, super-healthy, unpasteurized lacto-fermented kim chi, sauerkraut and other foods with no chemical ingredients. We’re a small-scale, intentional food-processing business making all natural, holistically healthy food products that are made in McMinnville, Oregon, a town of 32,000 residents in the lush Yamhill River Valley, approximately 35 miles southwest of Portland. We’re a local hit, and now we’re looking to develop and grow our business to meet the increasing demand of our larger community.
HGFP was founded in the Winter of 2012 by its current owner-operators, David Kellner-Rode and Alex Freedman, who are both trained, experienced, and passionate organic farmers and food processors. HGFP is a fully licensed and registered Partnership LLC.
Our mission is to revive, renew, and sustain traditional methods of processing seasonal foods fresh from the farm and garden to enhance their flavor, health benefits, and shelf-life. We make unpasteurized Lacto-fermented foods with no chemical ingredients, maintaining the health benefits of their live active cultures. Lacto-fermentation is a natural fermentation process in which a series of micro-organisms consume sugars present in raw foods, producing flavorful lactic acid while simultaneously preserving, enriching, and breaking down the foods. Our product line depends on seasonal recipes and compelling, creative, and unique flavor combinations, including Curry Sauerkraut, Sour Dill Pickles, and Cucumber-Kale Kim Chi.
But at HGFP, it’s not just what we make; it’s how we make it. We’re guided by our core values of health, stewardship, and community, which determine everything we do. We never use chemical or artificial preservatives or additives of any kind. All of our ingredients are organic, and fresh from the farm (or our own ½-acre garden) whenever possible. We always source our produce locally, from small-scale organic farmers that take care of the soil and the land as much as their vegetables - true environmental stewards. Even our salt is artisanally made on the Oregon coast!
Our products are hand-made in small-batches, processed and packaged in our own certified kitchen. We ferment our products in ceramic crocks rather than plastic to ensure health, safety, and quality. All of our lacto-fermented products are unpasteurized, and instead are kept under constant refrigeration, maintaining their health benefits. Our goal is to make the highest-quality, healthiest food products we can.
HGFP's products are already starting to make a name for themselves through local farmers markets, small retail outlets, and local restaurants. More and more people in our community want our lacto-fermented goodness - and our business needs to expand in order to meet those demands.

Risks and challenges
Home Grown Food Products is already a fully operational and licensed business - your pledge is to help us develop and grow to meet the increasing demand of our larger community for healthy, locally-sourced, all-organic, hand-crafted foods. Your pledge will give us the capital infusion we need to reach the next level of production and distribution, without going into the kind of debt that can crush a small business or force it to compromise on its beliefs and values.
