Pete Ellison 2014 Summer T-Shirt Collection ~Agepoyo!~
My name is Pete Ellison. I’m a visual artist and DJ based in Portland, OR. I’ve designed a new line of super kawaii t-shirts that I hope to screen print with your help!
About The Collection
The designs in this collection were inspired by my travels around North America DJ-ing at various raves, clubs and anime conventions. Immersed in music-driven subcultures, I get the opportunity to take in a lot of fashion that is bright, bold and carefree. I also make it a point while travelling various cities to explore off the beaten path; wandering the mazes of Chinatown shopping centers, exploring historic downtowns, venturing into industrial areas, taking inspiration from both alleyway graffiti and shop signs of bygone eras. In an effort to give back to this pop culture landscape, I’ve distilled these snapshots of neon colors, catchy iconography, and bold text into a collection of graphic t-shirts that I hope anyone would be proud to wear on the dancefloor.
I’ll be screen printing these tees on Canvas brand Unisex and Women’s tees. Canvas is my favorite brand, and has had the most positive response from my customers. They’re super soft and comfy, and have more of a “fashion fit”. These tees will be hand screen printed by me, using water-based inks for a super-soft feel that won’t crack or peel like transfers or plastisol inks. I’m also going tagless with all of my tees, with a custom designed size tag printed on the inside neckline. I created these designs specifically for this garment, and put a lot of thought into making sure these tees are not only cute, but high quality!
Physical Goods Pack
This pack of bonus goodies includes a set of 4x6" postcards, a set of 1” pin badges, and a pair of 3x5" glittery cut-vinyl decals, all designed by me.
So far I’ve produced about 20 different designs of limited edition screen printed t-shirts, which I’ve sold at merch tables, anime conventions, raves, and online. Because of the nature of doing a screen printing project, it’s best for a batch of tees to be printed all at one time. Doing them out of pocket means I’ve only been able to produce limited runs of 20 or so, frequently running out of popular sizes (and typically not being able to offer things like Women’s tees or sizes above XL). My hope is that with this Kickstarter campaign, I can produce exactly what there is demand for, plus some extra stock for me to vend. It's also my goal to approach retail shops about carrying my tees as well. Overall, I’m hoping that by running this campaign it will help me get my work in front of a much larger audience!
My initial goal is $2000, and would be used as follows:
$200 - Kickstarter fees
$625 - 200 t-shirt blanks
$200 - Ink, emulsion, misc supplies
$150 - New aluminum screens for my print studio
$100 - Making physical goods/bonus items
$300 - Shipping fees for Kickstarter rewards
$ 50 - Shipping supplies
$375 - Labor / extra budget as needed
Any additional funds beyond the initial goal would go toward helping me pay my general art studio expenses and purchasing a few more pieces of equipment for my studio!
About The Artist
From my official bio...
“Pete Ellison is a visual artist, music producer and DJ from Portland, OR. He is well known as the producer & songwriter behind internet cult-favorite label Disko Warp, the massive viral hit “Oh Oh Oh Sexy Vampire”, and the widely distributed “Anime Love Hardcore” series, as well as songs featured in the video game Dance Dance Revolution. Pete is a frequent DJ guest at anime conventions around the country, and is a regular guest at Seattle’s JKPOP party. In 2014, he started the weekly DJ mix show PUMP IT! ~Agepoyo Night!!~ on streaming radio station 91.8 The Fan.
Pete’s visual art is designed to complement his musical output, expressing his love of both kawaii pop culture and the underground rave scene. At the heart of his work is a bold, iconic illustration style that adorns everything from serigraph prints to t-shirts, which are quickly becoming staple attire for young ravers in the NW. Pete is currently working on new art, fashion and music for 2014, and is looking forward to seeing your smiling face on the dance floor soon.”

Risks and challenges
Each component of this campaign is something that I’ve done before (printing t-shirts, making the bonus items, fulfillment, etc.), but this will be in a bigger volume. The main challenge for me is the labor involved with potentially printing this many t-shirts, and I anticipate the project taking about 6-7 long days worth of studio work. With my last Kickstarter, I had some delays with international shipments, but I’ve addressed that by printing all my postage in-house (thank you, Dymo label-writer!), so I don’t foresee any shipping delays. I’ve run three funded Kickstarter campaigns, and delivered products successfully for each!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
