HEY Coffee Co.
It has been an honor and privilege to have the support from neighbors and longtime friends of Hey! Cafe for nearly 10 years. Now, we wish to open a new roastery, coffee cafe, and community space in the Heart of New Orleans.
Let us share with you a story:
When the uniquely friendly but financially troubled gathering place, Magazine Perks, closed in 2009; there was a short moment of uncertainty among friends, neighbors, and employees of what would become of the spirited little cafe at Magazine and Napoleon.
We said YES to Destiny and Hey! Cafe was born.
When we got a start, our friends and neighbors helped us so greatly. You helped us fix things, you shared laughs with us, you designed our travel cups with doodles and drawings, you even helped name us. The list goes on and on! You supported us in every way, and somehow we have all made Hey! Cafe work. We did it.
Then We Started Roasting!
We began roasting in a drafty shed on Annunciation St. in a roaster no larger than a toaster. Pleased with the quality of fresh, meticulously roasted coffee, we moved production to the back of Hey! Cafe with an upgrade to a larger (but still really small!) 2 kilo roaster in 2014. This enabled us to roast all of the coffee for Hey! Cafe while expanding our access to exceptional farms with incredible coffees. After a lot of hard work, word got out about this fresh-roasted phenomenon, and we started sharing our newfound joy with business neighbors. Before we knew it, we were roasting coffee for over twenty of the most revered coffee destinations in the City!
With growing support from the local business community and farming partners ready to share more of their craft with New Orleans; we need to grow. Our 2 kilo roaster is exhuasted, and we need more space! Larger and larger shipments of raw coffee are needed to stabilize our inventory and work more directly with farmers. Our loving, passionate, and talented team is ready to take this next step in sourcing and serving the best. Maybe even someday, we'll go to origin!
A New Roastery and Cafe serving the Lafitte Corridor
We found the perfect spot in the heart of New Orleans to house our dreams in the former Tulane Industrial Laundry building Adjacent to the new Lafitte Greenway bike and pedestrian path. It's the perfect blend of industrial warehouse for our production side and a cozy hospitality area to serve our guests. It has a spectacular view of the native meadow planting area outside our window. BONUS!!
What we have:
- New Diedrich IR-12 Roaster (badass)
- Amazing location on the Lafitte Greenway bikeway
- New HEY Coffee Co. bags! ...Fancy!
- Sweet telethon vid
We're at the finish line, and we need help with some of our final costs:
- Last phase of buildout
- Fixtures, furnishings, equipment
- Permission to operate (including a beer and wine license, fingers crossed!)
Thanks to all of you who have supported us over the years, and thanks for becoming a member of HEY Coffee Co. With your help, we can make this place amazing!

Risks and challenges
The city's new guidelines in place to increase stormwater management on the properties of new builds and renovations have further delayed this project by almost a year, forcing us to pay back a significant chunk of our business loan! Now, we're struggling to manage cashflow at this crucial time, and we need you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
