Heroes of History - Tales of the Ancient Greece
Heroes of History (HoH) is the first board game brought to life by Falcor Games in cooperation with Ursina and Jvo Hüttenmoser. HoH is a cooperative game which means that players act together as a team and they can only win or lose as community.
All unlocked Stretch Goals will be added FOR FREE to each Kickstarter copy of the Core Box!
Players take on the role of Heroes who protect the lands from the invasion of evil forces. To do so they have to perform various tasks. Heroes usually move 7 fields per day as per their condition. However, condition may be filled up to be able to walk or fight even more. During part 1 and 2 of the introductory game, players will get familiar with the essential elements of the HoH game. The accompanying booklet is available to answer any question that might arise. The tasks to be fulfilled will be communicated in the course oft he game. The basic game (core box) contains 10 stories of 14 chapters each.
The game «HoH – Tales of the Ancient Greece» is in many ways a varied entertainment for adventurer, fans of history, friends of cooperative games and many more. You will play through fictitious stories of the Greek mytholgy. Therefore the players take on the role of the Heroes Hercules, Achilles, Hector and Atalante. The Heroes have to fulfill various tasks before a certain amount of enemies reach a particular field. The Heroes will be confronted with both predictable and unpredictable situations which occur through certain decisions taken by the cooperative group, as well as through specific action cards. The story will take a good ending if all story goals have been achieved on time. All stories are built on each other and are divided into 14 chapters each. All of them will be connected by the Meta story of the Kingdom of Knossos.
Since each story is different, instructions and game preparations have to be followed and executed carefully. The initial situation is to be set up, action cards and equipment to be placed ready and play figures placed on the board as advised.
Each player chooses a Hero and picks the respective Hero Board. Overview about equipment, life points, combat power as well as special abilities are being shown on the front side. On the back you will find some historical facts about your character.
The game flow generally doesn’t change much. One round consists of one day during which Heroes can move 7 fields, using their 7 condition points. Condition can however be filled up by purchasing or finding foods. Each step on the board and each fight attack costs 1 condition point. Once you finish your turn, the player to your right is up next. Equipment can be exchanged amongst the Heroes but only when they stand on the same field. Fights are being played over dice.
Once you win a fight, you will be rewarded with either Obolos (money) or additional combat power. In addition, the enemy that lost the fight is being removed from the game board.
At the dealer, various equipment can be purchased which will increase either life-, condition or combat power points of a Hero
Once all Heroes have used their condition (reaching of value 0) they have to find themselves a place to rest which could either be in the town, in the castle or in a tent (to be used on any field) which can be purchased from the dealer. Condition will be refilled and lifepoints will increase. Should none of the places to spend the night at been reached, lifepoints will be reduced. Once night sets in, the enemies move as far as the dice throw sais (1-3 fields) towards different places where, as per the story goal, they should better not arrive...
However, random massacring of the enemies is not really the best solution as every time an enemy is being defeated, the narrator moves forward one chapter. He also does so at night. Once the narrator reaches chapter 14, the story ends and all tasks must be fulfilled and the story goals achieved. If this is not the case, then the story has taken a bad ending and should be played again.
Heroes of History is meant to be an atmospherical game in terms of the combination of game materials, graphics, illustrations and stories. Due to the fusion of the stories and the illustraions a depth in mechanics and story background is being guaranteed. Usually the principles and mechanics of a game are being designed by an author. Later on an illustrator translates it into graphic images. We have tried to combine these steps to make it appear more real, aiming for more adventures to come out of the story.
Getting into the game
Thanks to the introductory game parts 1 and 2 as well as the accompanying booklet, one finds itself within the story very quickly. HoH quickly develops its own momentum and is designed to literally draw players into the story: «who takes the money, who takes which equipment?» «I will go into the forest and will search for the dealer, you should try to get more combat power. Oh hold on, Hercules could do this better as he is close to the city.» «Atalante, the archer, can bring the farmers to safety and simultaneously attack the Minotaur-Soldier from the neighbour field.» «and if you could meet me at the bridge, you could give me some money in order for me to purchase the armor form the dealer. »
Play on – never give up!
As the stories build up on each other and reach levels from easy to difficult, the players will find themselves within the game right from the beginning. The first story (introductory game) is meant to be a learning by doing introduction which will provide knowledge on all the necessary basics and essential elements of the game. This will prevent you from reading through long rules and regulations booklets. The game ensures that you always get just enough knowledge to continue. Chapter cards may bring new rules and additional elements into play which means that new options may become available during the course of the game.
It may happen that the game seems lost but suddenly, out of nowhere, a Greek God appears, offering help! There might pass by a cyclope with a plump bag of gold. As a community you will be able to defeat him, using the money to improve your equipment or to buy food and therefore turn the game around again!
Play on – never give up! Just like the Heroes of History!
Due to the amount of stories and their respective chapter cards, each story is an adventure itself. Even though a story might end badly, the repetition promises to be a modified one as some of the chapter cards are being produced with different turns to the story. If a story seems to be too difficult, red chapter cards (difficult) can be exchanged with the green (easy) ones to make the game easier.
The Minotaur Labyrinth
As of the 6th story, the game continues in the Minotaur Labyrinth on the backside of the game board. An additional factor of difficulty and diversion is the fact that the labyrinth is divided into 6 parts which can be arranged differently for every new story.
Heroes of History is meant to have a future
Not only with the first part «HoH - Tales of the Ancient Greece» but also with the already confirmed extensions «New Heroes» and «The Adventures of Hercules and Iolaus» additional adventures and exciting new stories are guaranteed. With the available extensions, you will have the opportunity to play as a group of 2-6 Players.
However, this should not be all. There is already a roadmap in place for another two big basic games, playing in the Greek mythology with the current Heroes as well as some new ones.
History is full of Heroes!
Pirates, the Wild West, Middle Ages, the bygone Rome, the Musketeer, Vikings, Wars of Independence,… History was full of adventures and big deeds. To experience these in the way of a board game – this is meant to be the future of Heroes of History!

Risks and challenges
Even though we are new to this business, we can draw on a whole bunch of experience. They include Internationl project management, leading of companies as well as dealing with 1000 games as teacher and hobby players.
By creating our own game, we do not enter new fields. We have already created various games for private use as well as games to be used in schools. But now we want to expand and go into a world wide game production.
The quotations for production of HoH have been signed, budget is calculated, the game planning is done, rules and game flows are in the final testing and the worldwide delivery is guaranteed.
Everything is carefully planned and well thought through. However, projects of this size can run into unforeseen delays in development, production, shipping and clearing customs. We are committed to delivering your HoH box the soonest possible.
Now we need your support to have a future for Heroes of History. There are at least another two big adventures for «Tales of the Ancient Greece» planned, which will play in the mythical lands of Heroes and Gods.
More Heroes from other times of History are waiting as well – we got so many ideas! HoH should and will bring a lot of fun and exciting hours of playing over the coming years!
