Our movie is almost done! We need to raise funds for finishing work such as sound design and music licensing, as well as resources for marketing, promotion, PR, advertising, MPAA rating and digital/film prints for theatrical release in select U.S. cities starting Fall 2012 followed by International release in early-mid 2013.
Help us make Heroes of Dirt an epic favorite - the next big BMX movie since the cult classic Rad which was released in 1986. While we have “Cru Jones” of Rad playing the father of our lead actor, our story is unique.
Log-line: A young man's passion to achieve greatness in the sport as he realizes true significance by mentoring a troubled teen.
Synopsis: Passionate BMX dirt jumper, Phin Cooper (Joel Moody), wants nothing in life but to attain fame in his sport and get paid doing it. After missing out on a competition when he lands in jail for unpaid citations, he is court-ordered for community service and reluctantly mentors Blue Espinosa (Will Martinez) under the watchful eyes of youth center director Jordin Amstrong (Viviene VanHorn).
As Phin leads the troubled teen on exciting adventures of riding dirt trails, big jumps and cityscapes, Blue becomes more than an obligation - he becomes an unlikely friend. But Phin also becomes unwittingly involved in Blue’s secret world of drug trafficking. Just as his second chance to compete comes around, Phin learns that Blue is held hostage by a dangerous gang, and everything becomes a race against time.
Featuring some of the best stunts in dirt jumping by legendary pros and hardcore locals, Heroes of Dirt is more than adrenaline rush. It embarks on an unforgettable journey into real significance, and the price it takes to get there.
Brought to the screen by a core crew of filmmakers who have strong roots spanning three decades in BMX dirt jumping and street riding, Heroes of Dirt is an unforgettable story of triumph of the human spirit, coupled with a strong dose of riding by legendary pros and hardcore locals in the sport.
The film was originally titled Accelerate: The BMX Movie in its pre-production and production phases. The name change reflects a better overall theme and relevance to BMX dirt jumping. From initial concept to filming to post-production, Heroes of Dirt has taken almost 4 years in the making due mostly to limited budget and resources, as well as unpredictable weather conditions during filming.
Filming took place in Allentown, Pennsylvania and surrounding cities within the Lehigh Valley region, as well as in Jim Thorpe and Philadelphia. Principal filming for 30 days was completed early November 2010. Reshoots and additional scenes for 10 days took place towards the end of July 2011.
Heroes of Dirt is the first feature film of Blue Trail Entertainment, an independent film company dedicated to bringing unique and powerful stories to the screen. We strive to impact our audience with positive message and lasting impressions.
Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Allentown PA, husband-and-wife team Eric Bugbee (Writer / Director) and Jill Bugbee (Producer / Co-writer) work closely with some of the best writers, producers and crew personnel from New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA.
Your support will help us finish the film and allow us to reach as many audience as possible in as many outlets as we can achieve. Starting Fall 2012, we hope to release the film theatrically in select U.S. cities, followed by international in early-mid 2013. We plan to have at least 9 language translations and subtitling. Afterwards, other distribution outlets will include DVD, cable TV, VOD and the Internet.
Here’s a breakdown of how we plan to use the $50,000 in funds:

If you are able to contribute financially by showing off “your trick”, we have amazing incentives to choose from (look to your right) that we think you’ll really dig. Please also spread the word about our Kickstarter campaign to your network on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogger and any other platforms.
Click the green “Back This Project” button in the upper right-hand corner. You will be asked to input your pledge amount and select a reward. From there, you will go through the Amazon checkout process. You must finish the Amazon checkout process for your pledge to be recorded.
Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative ideas and operates by an all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money is handed over. From the funds, 8-10% will be subtracted because Kickstarter has a 5% fee and Amazon Payment has a 3-5% fee. If funding fails, all pledges are canceled and your card will not be charged.
If funding is successful and we have reached our goal, we will get your contact information including address, as well as merchandise size(s) if applicable. We will start working on getting those sweet rewards to you as soon as possible!
If we don’t raise our goal of $50,000, we lose everything, and backers' money will not be charged at all. Those 45 days will fly by, so please show off your trick today!
Yes, and we need to! We’re setting a lower goal than what we actually need, so that we have a bigger chance at arriving there. The $50,000, at the very least, will cover our finishing work expenses, MPAA rating and 10 digital / film prints for theaters in select U.S. cities. The more we raise the better!
Of course! We will contact the provided contact information once funding is complete to gather information so that we can get your incentives to the provided address. Just let us know the name you would like to donate under.
Of course! Just click on the Amazon Payment Button and you will see that you can pay with a credit card from any country! But you must finish the Amazon checkout process for your pledge to be recorded. If you have any problems just contact us.
Become an Outreach Partner. Spread the word about the film in your community and receive a special Outreach Partner credit on our website.
