About this project
Inspired by nature. HYVE is:
CONFIGURABLE = hexagonal geometry allows HYVE to be arranged to fit your space
LOCKING = 'Quick-Clip' system allows HYVE elements to snap together
SCALABLE = HYVE elements can be infinitely added to the system
Through months of research, prototyping and use we've found that HYVE fills a need in the kitchen, dining room, garage, kids room, craft room, playroom, laundry room, bathroom, office, studio...anywhere and everywhere.
Originally conceived as a system for the desktop or table, we conceptualized other ways to make HYVE even more useful and versatile. We decided to go vertical with HYVE Wall Planks and HYVE Magnets:
Now that you've seen HYVE in action, think of all the uses you might have for them. Our pledge options are outlined below: *colors shown are actual color combo shipping for each reward...
We are a multi-disciplinary team of product and graphic designers, mechanical engineers and researchers. We come from diverse backgrounds and all use HYVE differently.
Walter and Scot Herbst / Designers_Soon to be "Dr. Herbst" Walter's work has been on exhibit at the Smithsonian since 1964. Son Scot is just happy to have inherited the gene...
Will Hunter / Designer_The young visionary. Rarely without a pen, camera or hockey stick in hand...
Jeff Servaites / Mechanical Engineer_Bends the laws of physics...
Sara Butorac / Graphic Design_Makes sure people actually understand the random things we invent...
Peter Bartlett / Manufacturing_Director of Innovation at Mead, able to turn our ragtag crew into worthy sailors...
Honey Bee / Creative Director_Advanced social structure, organized and very busy, populations are in decline due to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).
Because the honeybee was such a critical source of design inspiration, we are collaborating with Life Lab (a non-profit whose mission is to teach people to care for themselves, each other & the world through farm-and garden-based programs) to educate children on the importance of honey bees in our environment and food systems. Risks and challenges
Working with a knowledgeable team of veterans in the product development field we have designed, built and shipped many products including furniture, toys, housewares, consumer electronics and even some tools and hardware.
It looks easy, but HYVE is a relatively simple design BECAUSE we've invested a ton of time in engineering, development and manufacturing. Our injection mold tooling is already completed and we're now working on finalizing packaging and logistics as we race to get your HYVES by the end of the summer.
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns...but we always do our best to devise creative solutions and deliver on time with our name on the box.
A few remaining details:
May-June = Kickstarter Support!!...
June-July = Match and approve colors, sample and finalize packaging...
July-August = Transit from manufacturing to warehouse...
August-September = Shipping!
