Update (reward fulfillment, etsy and silicone)

Posted by Henry Schreiber (Creator)

Hello backers,

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on my progress.

King & Queen sculptures

They are just about ready to ship out. I have received 5 of 5 survey responses and I will have them in the post or hand delivered within the next couple of days.

Bishop, Knight & Rook sculptures

I have 8 of the 12 prototypes complete and molds for 6 of the 8 completed prototypes. The prototypes shouldn’t take too long to wrap up, but making the molds may cause a little more of a delay. See the Silicone section below.

Pawn sculptures

This will take a while still. They should go pretty fast after I complete the bishops, knights and rooks. I will post more on their status next time around.

Silicone Rubber (molds)

Well, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I over-estimated how much resin I would need to make the sculptures. The bad news is that I under-estimated how much silicone I would need for the molds. I originally estimated that I would need 50 lbs to complete the set. I’ve gone through 100 lbs, which has produced these molds so far:

  • 2 of 2 Kings
  • 2 of 2 Queens
  • 2 of 4 Bishops
  • 2 of 4 Knights
  • 3 of 4 Rooks
  • 5 of 16 Pawns

Each 50 lb container of Silcone run me a little over $450. I think one more will see this project through to the end. To help me cover this, I have temporarily posted prints from Marmot Chess on my etsy account...

Prints

Until the official Marmot Chess website(www.marmotchess.com) is up, this is where to find available prints online from me.

Original Paintings

Screaming Sky Gallery in Portland, OR has the available originals and prints from the Marmot Chess Art Show.  http://www.screamingskygallery.com

I know this is dragging on a bit, but I am happy to see the project is progressing. Thank you everyone for sticking this out with me!
