About this project
For the last two years I have been working independently in Los Angeles, helping my community one person at a time. Typically you do not fight fire with fire; however, in this case I’ve chosen to take a different approach. I found that after I paint a mural over graffiti the problem with the tagging ceases. With this unique approach, I have been helping truck, business, and home owners in LA, who, fed up with cleaning their trucks and financially unable to maintain them, have grown apathetic and allowed the problem with tagging to spread. I have been maintaining the trucks and businesses of community members by providing my murals free of charge along with maintenance of them. My art, which has allowed me to express myself and give something back to my community, has transformed shops, walls, and trucks from the defaced to dramatic and dynamic masterpieces. Through my art I have connected with a number of artists and resolved to proceed with my murals to larger and better pieces of art. I wish now to connect with artists worldwide to further my art and help communities, and have decided to travel to Chile and Argentina with that purpose. While in South America I will work vigorously to complete- at least- one mural a day. My goal is to not only help struggling communities but also build a bridge between the United States Art movement and the artists who are either involved or native to the South American Art communities. I wish, with this trip, to unite the North American Culture with the South American culture, paint as many art installations as possible and document the murals I paint by creating a book with all the collaborations and art projects I will complete. The funding I am requesting will include the price of paint, the cost for the trip, a photographer and the cost to develop a hard-cover book. I look forward to being able to provide help for communities in need throughout the world with future projects. I thank you for taking the time to read this and greatly appreciate any support.
Signed, Carlos Alberto
Risks and challenges
The main obstacle with this project would first and foremost be, to make it home safe. Aside from that once all is funded, I see no issues with being able to accomplish a number of Murals, as I am now connected with well respected artists in the communities I will be visiting. We have already set up a number of walls that are waiting to be completed. Set backs in making the final book could be my only issue I do plan on having the book be made in Chile but if worst came to worst I would need to produce it here in the U.S.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
