Computers of the future will be voice-driven artificial intelligence. How do we prepare kids for a future where a human-like AI is ubiquitous? We do that by giving them the tools and motivations to create and use their very own AI.
By building the hardware and teaching the voice assistant, kids learn how and why this technology works, rather than being tricked by "black-box" technology into thinking voice AI is human.

The Chatterbox case is made of recyclable chipboard (really strong cardboard) and powered by the Raspberry Pi computer, the world's most popular educational computer. Its ears and voice are powered by our very own ChatterVoice HAT and microphone. Fold it, build it, customize it!

Risks and challenges
While there are risks and challenges in every venture, we have gone through great lengths to minimize risk, simplify the manufacturing process and reduce costs for our users.
For our hardware kit, wherever possible, we have opted to use parts that have been tried and tested by the maker community. The brain of Chatterbox is a Raspberry Pi computer made by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. We have chosen reliable off the shelf parts from reputable suppliers. The ChatterHAT PCB is the only custom designed hardware, but has undergone thorough testing with kids in California. The PCB is currently under assessment for production-readiness.
For the Chatterbox enclosure, we have opted to use recycled chipboard as our material of choice to eliminate plastic/polymer waste and to be environmentally-friendly. The chipboard selected thick, strong and durable, while being customizable by kids.
Our software and curriculum is currently being tested in schools in California and is being optimized for ease of use, privacy and security.
