Disease: it’s the thing we’re all scared of. Something happening to our bodies that’s out of our control, whether it’s internal or on the outside – it’s at the core of the body horror subgenre. And it’s something Gus Harper finds himself confronting personally in this brand new graphic adaptation of a classic fiction story (seen most recently in the Monsters collection, with the Clive Barker cover and Nicholas Vince introduction). A tale that deals with our fears on a level never seen before; that manages to be both intimate and global at the same time; that will affect every reader on different levels. A story about life, and about the risk of losing it. About love, kindness and kinship. In The Disease it’s not the monster under the bed we’re concerned with, but the one we might turn into; the one we might see if we look in the mirror – and that’s the most frightening thought of all… Written and adapted by Paul Kane (bestselling and award-winning author of the sellout Hooded Man, Blood RED and the forthcoming Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell), and superbly illustrated by Pawel Kardis, this comic is sure to become a collectors’ item of the future!
Hellbound Media is an independent British-based comic company founded and run by Mark Adams and Matt Warner. Matt works as a journalist and newspaper editor, whilst Mark has written academically and lectures in cult media, and it with this background in writing, and a lifetime interest in fantasy, comics and horror, that the two of them came to form Hellbound Media. An outlet for us to write original horror and fantasy fiction, we've come to work with a team of amazing artists and other guest writers over the years. The company launched officially at Bristol Comic Expo in May 2011, and has gone from strength to strength.
One of our initial books was the first volume of horror anthology 'Shock Value Red' which has been followed by two further titles 'Shock Value Blue' and 'Shock Value Green'. Each volume contained several stand alone horror tales from some of the best independent artists from around the world. They stories range from science-fiction horror, to slasher horror, to comedy horror and more. Each volume has come with a stunning cover illustrated by Hellbound regular Anna Susanne.
As well as developing new entries in the 'Shock Value' anthology series, Hellbound Media has launched 'Shock Value presents...' as a series of stand alone graphic novels and comics that tell one-off tales of terror from some of the worlds best creatives. Our first endeavour was the English-language version of 'Enslavement' from Hellbound Media regular Atlantisvampir. 'The Disease' will come under the same banner, though it is a 100% stand along horror comic, showcasing the amazing writer of award-winning author Paul Kane.
'The Disease' is based on a short story by Paul Kane, who has adapted his own work into a comic format, drawn by the hugely talented Pawel Kardis. This 34-page full colour comic tells a complete, and terrifying story of bodily transformation and loss of identity.
The comic art is complete, and Hellbound Media regular Nikki Foxrobot is lined up for the lettering, which means we are practically set to go to print. This kickstarter aims to get our first printing funded and allow us to bring this book to you quickly and in the best possible quality. What follows is a taster of some of the stunning and terrifying art for the project.
The primary goal is to offer this book to you the chance to pre-order the book and help support independant comic book creators. We're offering the physical book and a PDF digital copy as low level rewards but we hope you might consider looking at some of the other great rewards we have on offer, including some rare and exclusive items.

Paweł Kardis is an artist and illustrator specialising in creating graphics for the purpose of games and comic books. Despite the modern working methods he has classical artistic education. Sometimes he likes to take a break from the tablet and digital painting and grab a pencil or paintbrush and fill a blank canvas with results of his imagination. Drawing is not only Pawel's profession, but also a lifestyle and a great passion. Ever since he can remember he has always been drawing. It was the one thing that brought him happiness. When Pawel took a blank sheet of paper, an entirely new world opened before him and every picture that came under his hand was telling another story, so creation of comic books has become a natural process.
Nikki Foxrobot has been a comic letterer since 2009 and she has worked on titles for Games Workshop and Sky TV, along with many others. She lives in Southampton, UK and is both talented and competitively-priced.
MARK ADAMS & MATT WARNER
Mark and Matt are the editors and creative partners behind Hellbound Media, a company that continues to build its reputation for dark fantasy and horror comics. Mark has been writing comics for years, starting off drawing his own as a child with the best stick man art around. Working primarily as an academic in cult media and film, Hellbound Media has allowed him to indulge his creative side and create new stories in the genres he loves. Matt's love of comics started in the 80s, about the same time as his love of horror. Combining both in Hellbound Media, he has created Mandy the Monster Hunter, Dublin's infamous vampire killer Dawn Keenan and Wales' very own slasher icon who lumbers through the pages of tongue-in-cheek video nasty homage Slaughterhouse Farm. As Hellbound Media they aim to work to produce the very best of British Indie Horror comics.

Risks and challenges
As with our previous projects, beyond some form of unavoidable disaster (e.g.nuclear holocaust), there really should not be any. The art is all ready to go, lettering is underway, we have a printer, it's all priced up. Once we have the funds we can go to print and have everything completed within a few weeks.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
