'Shock Value Giallo' is a stand-alone horror anthology, featuring more than half a dozen short tales from of the best artists around the world. The collection is produced by Hellbound Media, the company behind the Ghastly Award-nominated horror comic 'The Disease'. It is the latest volume of our 'Shock Value' series of anthologies, and the first to be based around a strong central theme. 'Shock Value Giallo' will be a 72-page black and white, perfect bound book featuring a stunning variety of artistic talent.
What is 'Giallo', you might ask? Italian for 'yellow' it both refers to pulp crime novels that often featured jackets of that colour, and the films that they inspired. Associated notably with the works of Dario Argento, 'giallo' films are seen as a form of Italian horror cinema which includes such classics as "Profondo Rosso" (Deep Red), "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage", "Tenebre" and "Suspiria".
This anthology takes the flavour of all manner of Italian genre films and brings them into a classic, dark black and white horror comic format. The collections includes stories inspired by classic Italian 'zombie' films such as "Zombie Flesh Eaters" (Zombi 2), "Demons" and "City of the Living Dead" and the surreal nightmares of "Inferno" or "The Beyond".
Each story works to lovingly blend the classic dark tones of horror comics with the visual excess, stylistic flare and intricate plotting of the giallo films. You don't have to be familiar with them to appreciate the terrors on display - there's plenty of blood and guts to satisfying any horror hounds, alongside tightly written and dark scripts.
We are here to ask you to help us fund the printing of this book. The comics are already underway, with at least 50% of them completed at the time of writing. Our modest goal of £950 will allow us to bring the best quality printed copies to life, as soon as possible, as well as covering the many great rewards we are offering. So please, if you love, comics, horror or both, give 'Shock Value' a try and support our kickstarter campaign!
Hellbound Media is an independent British-based comic company founded and run by Mark Adams and Matt Warner. Matt works as a journalist and newspaper editor, whilst Mark is a doctor of philosophy and has written and lectured in cult media and horror. With this background in writing, and a lifetime interest in fantasy, comics and horror, the two of them came to form Hellbound Media. An outlet for us to write original horror and fantasy fiction, we've come to work with a team of amazing artists and other guest writers over the years. The company launched officially at Bristol Comic Expo in May 2011, and has gone from strength to strength. As it approaches its 6th Anniversary we're ready to launch our latest horror anthology. 'Shock Value Red" was one of our launch titles so it seems appropriate for the fourth volume to arrive this year. We have had huge success with three previous Kickstarter projects, delivering all our rewards, and hope for this one to be our best yet!
Whilst we've approached this as essentially a chance to pre-order the book, we've also added a whole host of extras and for those who wish to support us further, we have some fantastic rewards!
First off, backers can get some unique, limited edition Art Prints, produced especially for this Kickstarter. We also have on offer a selection of Hellbound Media stickers, perfect for sharing your love of horror and comics with the world!
At the higher end of rewards we will be offering special "Shock Value" T-Shirts and, limited to only three backers, the chance to grab a unique sketch from artist Abigail J. Harding, whose previous credits include a stunning issue of Elephantmen (Image Comics). We're fortunate enough to have her illustrating "Beyond the Veil" in this collection, and we're even more delighted to be able to offer our backers a unique piece of art.
As ever, we're happy to hear feedback and suggestions for other rewards we can offer. Also, for anyone interested in adding additional 'Shock Value' volumes to a pledge at *any* level, simply add the cost from the list below and let us know when we send out the Surveys.

Matt Warner - Writer / Editor Hellbound Media
Matt's love of comics started in the 80s, about the same time as his love of horror. Combining both in Hellbound Media, he has created Mandy the Monster Hunter, Dublin's infamous vampire killer Dawn Keenan and Wales' very own slasher icon who lumbers through the pages of tongue-in-cheek video nasty homage Slaughterhouse Farm. He's also working on a children's book about helpful dinosaurs.
Dr Mark Adams - Writer / Editor Hellbound Media
Mark has been writing comics for years, starting off drawing his own as a child with the best stick man art around. Working primarily as an academic in cult media and film, he has lectured on Argento and the giallo films. Hellbound Media has allowed him to indulge his creative side and create new stories in the genres he loves.
Abigail Harding - Artist
Aged 23. I’m an Artist based in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. I have been working in art for the majority of my life (so far). But working in comics was albeit recent career choice I fell into, a domino effect that happened just by showing my work to my local comic book store, they got me introduced and involved in events, short stories and in-tow with ‘Elephantmen’ writer and creator Richard Starkings. I’ve always been fascinated with the weird, macabre and strange fantasy. In recent years my artwork has developed into something that reflects those things. I feel right at home with horror themed and dark fantasy comics.

Risks and challenges
Beyond some form of unavoidable disaster (e.g.time traveling cyborg killing machine), there really should not be any. The art is all nearing completion, we have a printer, and it is all priced up. Once we have the funds we can be ready to print once everything is polished, and get the rewards into full production. At most, we may hit unavoidable delays but we have built in a longer time frame for rewards to try and avoid this - so you may even get your rewards early!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
