Heavyn's Treats Revised Work Space
A baking area
Hello! My name is Delanna Ellis-Gayles. I prepare delicious desserts that are affectionately known as Heavyn's Treats here in my charming neighborhood of Bakersfield, California. Prior to launching my Bakersfield-based bakery business, I lived in Los Angeles where I enjoyed a successful career as a craft service professional who worked as a commercial baker and caterer for the entertainment industry. My passion for cooking and baking dates back to childhood, I have warm memories of making a yummy Thanksgiving meal, complete with dessert, at the tender age of 13.
It was a dream come true when “The Homemade Food Act” (AB1616) was passed in California January of 2013. That was when I seized the opportunity to go after my life's dream of having my own bakery. With help from my family, and the support of my friends, my dreams started to become a reality. I named the business after my first granddaughter "Heavyn" who, when was little, loved to help me make our family's favorite recipes. After all, isn't everyone's Destiny (second granddaughter) to have a piece of Heaven?
In 2014, I was licensed as a Cottage Food Operation (CFO) that's when I obtained all the appropriate licensing, permits and insurance to launch my business.
There are two categories of a CFO:
Category A, which allows a business to engage in direct sales.
Category B, which allows a business to engage in both direct sales and indirect sales.
I am proud to let you know that as of October 2018 we obtained our Category B CFO, and with this designation are currently selling cookies, candied pecans, German chocolate cakes, coffeecakes, and carrot cakes to several Sully’s Chevron stations (a Sullivan Petroleum Company) throughout the Bakersfield area. Our goal is to continue to grow with Sully’s, as well as introduce our products to other major chains. In March of 2019, Sully's hosted a grand opening of a new location and we are blessed to be a part of it. In addition to our Sully's partnership, we have several other business ventures in the Bakersfield area, including special local events arranged with the community as well as events for the Bakersfield Elementary Teachers Association (BETA).
In July 2019 Heavyn’s Treats will open an official storefront in a local shopping district that is adjacent to a major highway.
Gratefully, customers of Heavyn's Treats keep coming back! Word of mouth is helping the business grow. Thanks to this expansion, its time to address key operational challenges that are critical to accommodate market growth.
The primary challenge is that our home based kitchen is currently at capacity. The layout of our kitchen simply does not allow us to be as productive as we know we can be. We need to renovate and expand in order to create a larger space for the commercial kitchen. This kitchen expansion will support our rapid growth, and make it easier for Heavyn's Treats to continue its mission of providing high quality, delicious treats and desserts that are made from scratch, using only the freshest ingredients.
This is where you come in!
Heavyn's Treats respectfully requests for you to please provide financial support while we continue making irresistible treats available to our community and beyond.
We'd be grateful to have your financial help as the Heavyn's Treats kitchen is transformed.
Your generous financial support will help cover the cost of the renovation of the kitchen, commercial grade kitchen equipment including but not limited to convection range, and other necessary appliances, ingredient bins, and supplies.
This convection range will bake approx. 6 dozen cookies at a time in a 7-10 min time frame, as opposed to the TWO dozen we have been baking in 10-14 min. In the product details of this range it quotes "it produces -HEAVENLY- breads and pastries" :)

2. NXR 36” Hood - $620.98 ~ Costco.com
3. Construction- $11,759 ~ Ball-Line Remodeling

There are two main bakeries in our town, Sweet Surrender and Smiths Bakeries. Its been noted that some cakes sold at Sweet Surrender appear to be similar to cakes sold by Heavyn's Treats. It is a pleasure to provide, customer reviews which evidence the fact that there's little comparison when it comes to taste. Heavyn's Treats are delicious and the prices are fair and more reasonable than that of the competition. At this point the overhead of Heavyn's Treats is minimal compared to that of the competition.
3-5 YEAR PLAN
Our 3-5 year plan is to expand into our first commercial retail bakery location.

CONSTRUCTION PLANS :
Project will take approximately one month to a month in a half to be completed and operational.
Risks and challenges
There are always challenges and risk especially when it comes to construction. The unfortunate issue is that when we open up the walls we do not know what we are going to find. We have taken measures to minimize any unforeseen issues by making sure we have vetted several licensed contractors. Our biggest challenge will be when construction starts as we will not be able to produce anything in our kitchen. If there are delays with construction this may ultimately push our rewards back. But don’t worry as we will keep you posted of our progress as we move forward on this journey. To also help prevent risk, I have spread the rewards over several months. My promise to you is, when I'm 100% funded and the job is complete, I will be working diligently on your treats to get them to you on or before the promise date.
