On October 1st, 2010 I began my daily songwriting project "One Year of Songs" and on September 30th, 2011 I successfully wrote and recorded one song every day for a year. I have selected 10 songs from my project to be featured on the "One Year of Songs" album. However, unlike the "OYoS" project, which was mainly recorded using my own personal recording equipment, I am professionally recording this album in the studio (using my own personal funds) and will be releasing it in September 2012. My band, The Make Believe, is performing on the album and I cannot begin to explain how incredibly talented these people are. Seriously, it's ridiculous! September is just around the corner and I am so excited to get this album into your hands.
Here's the kicker: Packaging, printing, and mastering is expensive. A musician could easily package their album for the same amount it took to record it. I am a completely independent musician. No fancy record label, management, or high end loan backers. Every dollar sunk into this project comes from my pocket and my pocket alone. No credit cards. No massive trust fund. Just me, my part-time job, and the money I make at shows. By pre-ordering my album you are ensuring I have enough money to pay for all the following expenses:
Mastering on the album
Copyrighting the album
Paying for distribution to online stores (such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc.)
Printing of the album
Packaging of the album
I have estimated the total cost to be about $1500 (and that's the low end package, with no added expenses). If I make my Kickstarter goal, you will be charged for your total donation. However, if I do not make my goal, you will not be charged and I will not receive any of the funds donated to my campaign. If I make above my goal, I will be able to look at larger packaging bundles for my album, working with a publicist for the promotion of the album, and an album tour. Even if you are unable to donate at this time, please help support this dream of mine by spreading the word to your friends and family. Anything and everything helps!
The support I received during my project was inspiring. Your interest in these songs and this album, attendance at my shows, and the life you've breathed into these songs has made this whole thing possible. I am so proud of the music we have created and grateful for the impact it has had on my life (and hopefully yours). I cannot wait to present to you the official "One Year of Songs" album.
