HEAR NOW … A Festival of New Music by Contemporary Los Angeles Composers
Incredibly talented Los Angeles composers are writing very personal, idiosyncratic, impossible to categorize forms of concert music. HEAR NOW brings this music, the concert music of Los Angeles composers, into the spotlight.
HEAR NOW 2019 has international breadth and scope with one of the most dynamic and respected French new music ensembles, TM+, coming from Paris to perform works by our local Los Angeles composers.
Also: This year we received 175 submissions! We were obliged to extend for the first time ever to three chamber music concerts and have many more works on the festival than ever before!
Your donation IN ANY AMOUNT will be treasured and appreciated! Please donate now!!
For its 9th annual Festival, which will take place from April 30th through May 5th, HEAR NOW will present an electroacoustic concert and three chamber music concerts by contemporary Los Angeles composers.
WHO ARE THE COMPOSERS?
Electroacoustic: Joshua Carro, Liviu Marinescu, John Christopher Dobrian, Sarah Reid, Beattie/Wade/Borecki, Cristina Lord, Luis Molina, and Peter S. Chin

And HEAR NOW 2019 is adventuring into the NEW in other areas as well: the Festival has invited the extraordinary French ensemble, TM+, to Los Angeles to perform the music of LA composers. Le Monde: “Founded on exemplary dialogues between works that extensively span the history of western classical music, the TM+ ensemble is always aiming at a new way to approach the project of making music…. This modular chamber ensemble is unrivaled in the originality of its point of view on contemporary compositions”
We are thrilled to continue important collaborations with:
· the renowned Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, whose artist educator, Derrick Spiva and Sound Investment composer, Sarah Gibson, will have works performed in the festival.
· our founding and resident Lyris Quartet
· the Harmony Project which, along with our outreach concerts, has been made possible by grants from the NEA, the City of Los Angeles and LA County.
WHERE AND WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN?

HEAR NOW FESTIVAL 2019 NEEDS YOU!
Putting values which have enriched and inspired us for centuries into forms chiseled from the gritty, swirling liquidity of today’s tsunami, HEAR NOW 2019 continues to discover and present Los Angeles composers whose musical languages describe and transcend our historical NOW!
The composers and instrumentalists involved in the HEAR NOW Festival are the artists keeping music moving beyond the known frontiers. They are giving us beauty where we never expected to find it. Please support the values that innovative art brings to our world. We cannot do it without you.
All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Risks and challenges
The experience, knowledge, and professionalism of the composers, musicians, artistic and administrative personnel together with the financial and enthusiastic support of the community have led HEAR NOW to eight successful festivals without serious mishap. But, yes, of course things do happen! In 2015 a solo pianist cracked his head in a fall the day of the performance! (He was fine in a couple of days.) We postponed the performance to 2016. One year, on the last day of the festival, the piano broke!! Our great piano technician propped it up, retuned it, and the show went on--perfectly!! That one was a corker!
Producing a 4-concert Festival with over 100 musicians and 28 composers in three different locations is a rewarding challenge and requires the dedication of a large group of people who are determined to make an exciting, rapturous experience for audience, composer, and performer alike!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
