Healcrest Urban Farm is building a production & education space - the Learning Lab - to increase capacity & educate community! Read more
This project's funding goal was not reached on November 22, 2011.
About this project
Construction of an energy-efficient classroom and certified production space to process farm goods and value-added products including herbal teas, balms, scrubs, supplements, tinctures & vinegars and raw produce. The small building will be run on solar panels, with passive solar construction, rain water collection and a small certified processing space with sink basins, countertops and cooking area. Construction includes the final property purchases from the City of Pittsburgh in which the building will sit on, building permits, water and electric line development, and materials. We are working with YouthBuild Pgh of the Garfield Jubilee Association and will be receiving donated contractor and worker costs through the youth program as well as a significant amount of material donations. The classroom and processing space will create significant change in community access at Healcrest - turning it into more than just gardens and greenspace - but a destination for learning about the environment, healing and food!
