A Long Overdue Update

Hello gang,

It's been a long time since I last updated y'all on what's going on. Sorry about that! For this update, I want to answer the 3 most common questions I get every week.

First , let me update the Boneca hip bag backers...

Where's my Boneca Hip Bag?
The leather FINALLY arrived on Wednesday. I ordered it last year, but custom making 1,200sqft (over 2,700 lbs!) of leather took a lot longer than previously anticipted.

I'm well underway cutting out all the pieces and getting everything ready for stitching and assembly. Bags will start shipping out this month.

All other rewards that didn't include a hip bag have been shipped and received. Although, a few of you still have to fill our the reward survery, so I'll be sending you a separate reminder.

When can I order more stuff?
I've started working on the website and it will be up late summer and ready to accept orders. If you want to be notified when I launch the site just head over to and sign up to get the newsletter.

Are you working on any new goods?
Well, in the short term I'm just focusing on the getting the hip bags and website done. But after that I'll be protyping some new items.

I don't want to give away too many details just yet, but I'll be working on a new larger bag and a few smaller everyday carry items.

That's it for today. I'll be updating again in the not too distant future!

Send in those surveys!

Hey guys,

It's been 5 days since the my project was successfully funded, so I wanted to give y'all another quick status update.

Remember to fill out the reward survey if you haven't already. To those of you who pledged for more than one item, remember to write in your other extra options in the "Other comments" section.

Bracelet Woes Part 2

Like I mentioned in a previous update, the leather for the bracelets is still lagging. It's on the way, but the bracelets are definitely going to be a couple of weeks late. I ask for your patience and understanding. Message me if you have any questions!

In the meantime, I'm working on lanyards, wallets and belts, so all those should ship on time.

In better news, I moved into a little workshop! I spent a long time trying to find a warehouse type space that wasn't gigantic or crazy expensive. I wasn't having any luck until I found a Craigslist ad that simply said "Industrial space available" with no other details but a phone number.

I called and made an appointment to check it out. I met with Hildegard, a super nice german grandma, and after seeing the place and talking awhile, she patted me on the cheeks, said I reminded her of her granddaughter, and said it was mine if I wanted it.

I spent the weekend moving in and painting (including turning one wall into a giant chalkboard!) I still have a ton of stuff to organize, but the shop is fully operational!

That's about it for tonight! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon.

We did it!

First of all, let me just say how amazing you all are.  When I first started this project I was worried that asking $13,000 was too much, but man, you guys totally blew me away. Not only was my mind blown by the funding, but by the support, the kind words, and the general enthusiasm for Headknife.

You guys are the greatest.

I'll be sending out the surveys for sizing, colors, etc soon, so watch your inbox for an email from Kickstarter!

Thank you!

Almost There

Hey guys,

Just a quick update tonight. There's just a little over a week left in the project and I can't believe how fast everything is moving!

I want y'all on this trip with me, so here are some things that are happening:

Brass for days
I ordered a bunch of hardware and it all arrived the same day. Sitting on my workbench right now I have: 700+ buckles, 200 trigger snaps and thousands of rivets, chicago screws, key rings, snaps, and button studs. It's all very shiny (and heavy).

Bracelet Woes
I got a bunch of leather delivered today. Unfortunately, the leather that was specifically ordered for the bracelets wasn't there. I'm going to call the tannery tomorrow morning and straighten it out, but depending on when they send it out, the ship date for the bracelets might be delayed a week or two. Hopefully, not, but I'll keep you guys in the loop!

Speaking of shipping
Padded envelopes take up a lot more room than you think they would. They're necessary though, to protect your rewards from the perils of transit!

Which leads me to...
Space, or lack thereof. I'm quickly running out of space in my little garage workshop, and it'll be especially rough when all the leather comes in, so I've been looking for a slightly bigger workshop type place. Not sure if this is going to happen soon, but I'm keeping my eyes open. In the meantime, I'll be playing a fun game of workspace tetris.

That's about it for tonight. I'll continue keeping you guys updated to the goings-on of this project, and again, thank you guys for everything.  I couldn't have gotten here without you!

My dearest, beautiful backers... you guys are insane (in the best possible way).

When I woke up Thursday morning, I was 110% funded and I was very pleased. I had 20 days left on my project and I thought it'd be a steady 3 or 4 backers a day until the project ended... and then Kickstarter featured me in their weekly newsletter.

Within a 30 minutes of the newsletter going out I had 79 new backers. By the end of the day, 213 new backers. And by this time I'm writing this message, I have over 300 new backers and have almost tripledmy initial goal! This is incredible, exciting, overwhelming, and a bunch of other adjectives!

I'm ready to lock myself in my studio and pump out hundreds of leather goods, but I had to put some quantity limits on the rewards so that delivery dates don't get pushed back (I am a one-man operation, after all).

Unfortunately, the individual Boneca Hip Bags have sold out. A bunch of people have been emailing me asking to add more quantities of the bag, so here's what I'm going to do...

SECOND RUN OF BONECA HIP BAGS! I've added 30 new hip bags, but in order to ship the first batch on time, I need to split the new hip bags into a second run that will be ready to ship in April (two months after the first batch).

To recap- more hip bags and you guys are insane. I think that covers everything for today!

Thanks a million,
