Hulletta is a collection of sculptural garments inspired by the changes humans' morals go through between childhood and adulthood.

Through utilizing specific techniques I have learned at MICA, i.e. thioxing fabric, using dyes to alter the state of a fabric, melting, batik, embroidery, and beading, I wish to create a cohesive body of work that, with the processes I put the fabrics through, touches on ideas of change and the ever present push and pull humans feel between the way they were raised and the ideas they formulate on their own in adulthood.

Small detailing is important in my work- anything from beading to hand embroidery to the way I meticulously construct a garment- I am able to put aside my fear, desperation and unknowing I have acquired in my adult life, and relax into trying to perfect the aesthetics of a garment. There will be both sculptural as well as ready-to-wear garments in my line for the purpose of illustrating the shifts I have experienced in my life and the way I go back and forth between simplifying my designs and letting my imagination take over, for better or worse.

I will be showing the line at a fashion show at my school this April, and am looking forward to the possibilities that can come from your donations. Paying for school myself can be challenging, especially when trying to come up with the money to fund projects I am so passionate about so I can't thank you enough for taking the time to look into my project. If you're in the Baltimore area April 14th I hope to see you at the show!

FAQ

  • A good example of why I chose to go to a private art college-- there are very talented people that surround me on campus on a daily basis. People I call friends are rapidly becoming professional peers and we trade our skills while in school because, well, we're all starving artists. This video was produced by two hilarious and extremely talented senior video majors at MICA--Brian Agamie and Paul Slupski. So yes, in truth this video should have cost me an extreme amount of money, but these are the perks of being surrounded by genius (and for letting these two shoot their senior thesis film in my apartment). They have gone on to produce other Kickstarters (projects I might add gained their full monetary backing in under 24 hours) and are working on a few more.
