THE EXIT ROOM is a narrative short film to be produced on location in Brooklyn, New York. A futuristic adaptation of Ambrose Bierce’s AN OCCURRENCE AT OWL CREEK BRIDGE, the film explores one’s final moments of life and consciousness, where the brain takes over, and in some cases, creates its own alternate ending.
Set in dystopian New York City in year 2021, Joseph, a 21 year old captured protester, is being prepared for a state execution. In a not-so-distant future, where society is governed by belligerent exercise of The Nation Defense Authorization Act, Joseph’s world is one of nationalistic chaos, as the US teeters on the brink of all-out revolution. The film follows Joseph’s violent escape attempt, and takes us back to the protest that led to his detainment.
A HAYDEN 5 PRODUCTION
Hayden 5 was officially formed in 2009 by Milos Silber and Todd Wiseman Jr after the duo graduated from NYU’s Tisch Film School. With a collaboration dating back to the dorm days, the team has been working together in New York City for seven years, grinding out high profile music videos, commercials, and TV shows. The operation has grown into a full-fledged production studio and eight person staff in Chelsea from which The Exit Room will be produced. Comprised of business savvy twenty-something year olds, the entire Hayden 5 team has a knack for stretching a budget. Many of the necessities for producing The Exit Room will come from what Hayden 5 already has in place. These include use of the RED EPIC, full production insurance, much of the grip and lighting equipment needed, and an in house producing team. That leaves only a few loose ends to get the film made!
A VULTURE PICTURES PRODUCTION
Ariel Elia is currently a third year producing concentrate in Columbia University's Film School MFA program - Vulture Pictures is the banner under which he has produced 10 short films. The Exit Room is his thesis film. The school's belief that the story is the most important element of the filmmaking process is one which Ariel swears by as a Producer. Ariel has been making short films ever since he took a summer course at NYU's Tisch School in 2006, and has recently completed his first feature starring Naomi Watts and Matt Dillon entitled Sunlight Jr. which should be hitting the festival circuit by year's end. Ariel believes in working closely with the director to help him achieve his vision from giving script notes all the way through advising on the cuts of the film. He strives to allocate as much of the resources of the budget to what's in front of the camera, adding as much value to the production of the film as possible.
HOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!
We need your help! Filmmaking is a labor of love at the independent level. While most of the costs of production will be absorbed by what Hayden 5 already has in place, we need funding for some important elements like Production Design, Special Effects Make-Up, Additional Actors, and Food for our hardworking crew. We’re imagining and creating the future.. and it’s expensive! There are some cool incentives for helping us out, but most importantly, you will be helping tell an important story.
Alternate donations in the form of food, locations or gear would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to inquire at firstname.lastname@example.org if you think you can help us in any of these departments.
Thank you for your support - this would not be possible without you!
