According to FBI statistics, 80% of home break-ins occur at the front or back door. With forced break-ins and lock bumping on the rise, there is a clear need for a stronger, smarter home lock. HAVEN is a new smart lock that is anchored at the strongest point of the entryway, inside at the base of the door, preventing break-ins where traditional lock systems fall short.

To create a lock without a key or a traditional deadbolt mechanism, the HAVEN team worked with code inspectors, fire marshals, and contractors to establish multiple built-in redundancies.

OPTION 1: ANCHOR HAVEN WITH 3M VHB COMMAND TAPE
This method had been tested to stand up against 3000 lbs of tensile and shear strength, and is used with several major brands including extreme sport cameras. Installation is simple and doesn't impact your floor.
1. Measure: HAVEN will come with a template to place in front of the threshold. This will ensure it aligns properly for placement.
2. Mark: Use the template to mark off with a pencil where to place your HAVEN.
3. Place: Remove the VHB Command Tape from the bottom of your device and place on top of the guide marks. Your HAVEN will be ready for use after a short period of time.
OPTION 2: BOLT HAVEN TO THE FLOOR
Measure: HAVEN will come with a template to place in front of the threshold. This will ensure it aligns properly for mounting.
Drill: Drill a hole in line with the template. Then use the provided lag bolts to secure the two mounting brackets.
Install: Once the two mounting brackets are secured to the floor, HAVEN will latch into place.

After multiple break-ins in their neighborhood, Alex and Clay were motivated to replace an aging piece of security technology--the deadbolt. When Alex was serving as an Army aviator in Iraq, he recognized that the most important buildings were fortified by either simple, steel gates or electronically activated pylon barriers. He had an idea for a home friendly product and after some initial research, concept sketches, and customer validation, HAVEN was born. From there, an expert team rallied around the movement.

RISK AND CHALLENGES
Any good project is not without its friction points. Below are those points that we have identified and will mitigate through proper planning, sound judgement, and appropriate attention.
Manufacturing – Establishing the proper toolsets and purchasing the molds are the most costly and time-consuming aspects of this process. We have a team of experts who are well-versed in working with large scale manufacturing companies to bring specialty products to market. We are also working with tooling manufacturers, 3rd party engineering firms and advanced manufacturing companies who have a proven track record of quality and on time delivery. Our supplier partners have been vetted and scored based upon on-time delivery and quality control metrics.
Product Adjustments – As HAVEN takes the next leap in the production process, we anticipate some adjustments in materials and design to ensure proper manufacturing. We plan to incorporate supporter feedback into the final design and have built in time to fine-tune the details.
Fulfillment – No one likes delays in shipping due to poor planning on the project management’s part. We will have primary and backup producers identified that meet our strict requirements for quality control and on-time delivery. We will host monthly podcasts/webcasts for our backers updating them on the production process and 3rd party development.
Technology Certification – The FCC certification process takes time. We are using components from companies that have already stood the test of this process which will make certification approval less daunting. We have been working with multiple chipset developers and are confident we have the right components that will help mitigate this challenge.

HAVEN will need to sit firmly on a hard surface, so wood, vinyl, linoleum, ceramic tile, granite, concrete or stone are all compatible.
If carpet is present, trace an outline of the provided template with a razor blade or box cutter. Remove the excess carpet, padding and any debris and install accordingly.
HAVEN is made out of a variety of materials giving it the proper strength needed to protect your home, including glass filled nylon, aluminum and steel.
HAVEN will pair through bluetooth and a custom mobile application for IOS and Android platforms. The pairing process we be inline with other home automation devices or wearables.
Multiple HAVEN devices can be connected to one another, enabling full access and monitoring via our mobile and web application.
HAVEN will integrate with the Apple HomeKit and the Nest Developer Program.
Your device will have a redundant battery system that provides a primary state of charge to keep your HAVEN connected and activated. As the battery approaches 10% of power remaining you will receive notification alerts on your phone. As the device approaches 5% the device will enter a local state that only allows for you to connect via bluetooth. At 5% you will have the option to lower the device wirelessly before it enters this state. At 0% the device will enter a hibernation state that only allows for local interaction every 15 minutes through a redundant battery.
HAVEN will be able to be locked/unlocked via bluetooth locally.
HAVEN will have a web portal to access your account and control it from there.
At launch, Apple and Android devices. This will expand as we continue to grow.
In case of an emergency, you can step on the mechanical foot pedal and lower the device mechanically from the inside of the home. No phone, fob, power, etc needed.
HAVEN can be used on any door that meets height and flooring material specifications for installation.
HAVEN will expand into the home security space as a service once our customers dictate the need and as the family of HAVEN products expands.

HAVEN will in fact work on your double doors as long as one of the doors has the top pin inserted to the frame of the door. Placing the HAVEN in the center of the door opening will ensure that both doors stay firmly shut.
