About

Thanks to some extremely helpful donations of equipment prompted by the KickStarter campaign we now have the capability to diecut the circular cards as needed. For the remaining duration of the KS campaign and up to 1 month after the campaign finishes we will be offering a discount rate on direct purchasing via the store.

The direct purchasing links are below:

These are all priced at the Kickstarter Levels and will remain at these prices until the end of April which is when production starts. Any problems then please let me know!

The following decks will be available to choose from:

  • Original (V11) - Girl (12 colours)
  • Original (V11) - Boy (12 colours)
  • DarkCity (V12) - Girl (12 colours)
  • DarkCity (V12) - Boy (12 colours)

The graphics will be on the direct sale site soon.

Thanks for everyone's support and feedback, it has been extremely helpful.

Sexy Ninja Death Squad (or SNDS for short) is a fast fire card game designed for 2+ players than can last from 15-25 minutes. Players furiously attack each other and defend themselves in order to be the last ninja standing. It has additional gameplay rules for larger number of players to ensure each game runs quickly no matter if you are playing with 2 or 50.

Its main inspiration comes from computer games like IK+, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and films/TV shows like Highlander, TMNT etc. Oh, and one of our all time fave flash videos... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WgT9gy4zQA

We plan to have a lot of different themed card decks for people to choose in the future, from 'normal' martial artist inspired through to the more funny or surreal ones. Please feel free to suggest your own ideas and good ones can win free decks.

Individual Decks contain 78 cards total (67 action cards plus 5 hit cards, 3 ninja stars and 3 location cards).

SNDS is very easy to learn. Each card can be used in attack or defence and placed in the Head, Body or Legs position depending on it's tabs.

There is an Active Character Token (or A.C.T.) which signifies the active player. On receiving this you draw one card and can play one card on the players sitting next to you. They then have to block this attack with a card of their own OR give you a hit token (you have 3 of these in the standard game). When you lose a hit token you recharge your hand back up to 5 cards.

Seems simple huh...here is where it gets really fun...

There are three special indicators which can appear on the cards and these signify 'Flurry', 'Riposte' or 'Ninja Star' cards.

When a Flurry card is played in an attack you immediately draw another card and can play another attack card. If another Flurry card is played then you draw and play another attack and so on...

When a Riposte is played in a defence you immediately draw another card and can play an attack card on the player your attacker. If a Flurry card is played then its free second attack can hit any valid player.

The third type of card is the Ninja Star which can attack anyone.

Flurry and Riposte cards chain without limit which means your games get very hectic very quickly. The more people who are playing the more fun it becomes because more players means more ACTs!

It is not uncommon for other players to attempt to kill steal by lobbing a ninja star across the table, or you having to change tactics when your carefully prepared Flurry chain gets blocked and you have Riposte attacks to survive. Sometimes it is better to take the damage, lose a hit token, recharge your hand and come out swinging.

You can usually pick up the rules in the 1st game, and by the 2nd/3rd the cards start to fly.

These are videos from a Beta Playtest. It took us 2 months internal testing before we were happy to try it with others.

The 1st video is where only a couple of the players have played before so most are learning the rules as they go. It is very easy to pick up and even the mistakes are a fun part of the game.

The 2nd Video is the next round and players are more confident, the game flows faster and becomes more intense as players are eliminated.  Overall this 8 person game took around 25 minutes.

After this we made a few final tweaks to the rules thanks to our playtesters feedback on it and now we are good to go.

The 'Sexy Ninja' part has many levels.  Yes on one level it is about the graphics on the cards but it is also a bit of a joke on Western TV/Films cultures presentation of 'women ninjas'. With the whole REAL 'ninja' imperative to be invisible/untraceable/unseen the absolute LAST thing they would ever EVER do would be to dress up all sexy like so it is blatantly obvious they were female!

Despite the ease of play this is not a game aimed at children and in fact the name will change for each card set anyway.  SNDS is for the female and male ninja theme cards we are starting with. Designs unlocked at higher levels of the campaign have a lot less 'sexy' in them  Seeing as it takes 150+hrs to render a set of card design we had to start somewhere with one single set. Post campaign we will be making more designs as time allows...

...but mostly it is just a catchy name...

Try before you pledge...you can download the instructions and a BW printable version which you'll need to number on the back so you and a bunch of friends can try it for yourself. You'll need a BW printer, paper, a pen, scissors, and a steady hand.

We are slowly working on our major game at the moment (Wayward) and one of the challenges we were facing was to make the turn by turn combat far faster for 'standard' monster encounters. We have it all sorted now but we found one of the card play systems we experimented with was a lot of fun but did not really 'fit' the Wayward 'theme'. So it was spun off as a seperate game...called Sexy Ninja Death Squad.

Initially the cards were going to be standard playing card size and shape but in order for the graphics to 'work' the cards had to be held in a very awkward position so as not to hide half the information needed! (Note: H.B.L. stands for the Head / Body / Legs strike locations.)

As we were holding the cards it reminded us of some really bad ninja films where they use special 'fans' to attack. This had us feeling like we wanted to throw the cards and the realisation hit that the cards needed to be circular. So we created a few test designs to see what they might be like.

We made a few different sizes of the cards as well and had people lovingly fondle them to see which they preferred. The first person we asked was Robert's eldest daughter (19) and when we told her about the game she picked up the different size cards and started to throw them to test how well each of them 'glided'!

A fair few design versions later we felt we finally 'nailed it'!

Bear in mind that this was initially supposed to be a little 'diversion', something fun and simple to produce in house without anything 'fancy' needed. Now, each deck has 78 specially shaped cards, custom tins and all sorts of tweaks. The game has moved to a finished mechanics state, AW for the standard decks is done (bar final positioning and rendering), tin producers are ready and the finishing is all lined up.

We have updated the artwork thanks to feedback from various people and now that we have the capability of small run die-cutting we can proceed with all the designs we have planned!

The active player token is used to help you keep track of whose turn it is.  Even a 3 player game can get a bit 'hectic' let alone a 12 player one with 3 active players at once!

These are made of 5mm laser cut acrylic so give a satisfying 'clunk' when they are passed on which can range from 'your turn' to 'you utter b****** stop hitting me!'. The design is based around the ninja they belong to so no one loses their token at the end of a game.

Initially they have a waterproof label on them but as various stretch goals are reached they will be UV printed and/or engraved.

They also double up as coasters, much to our horrorified looks at playtesting!

A single tin contains 78+ laminated play cards.  These are made up of 67 action cards, 5 health cards, 3 ninja stars and 3 location cards. It also contains one active player token.

You will need one tin per player and they should be different colours/designs so it is easy to sort out the cards at the end of a game.

So, here is what you get with each pledge level. There are add ons further down the list.

At the £1 pledge level you'll get to vote on the various Polls we will be running as well as a link for a colour PDF to download at the end of the campaign. You can print your own cards for your own use but are not free to sell them obviously.

At the £10 pledge level you'll get everything from the cheerleader pledge level and 3 SNDS ninja decks. These are the Black, White and Grey versions so you'll be able to play with a couple of friends. This or any higher pledge also allows you to choose anything in the addons section.

At the £15 pledge level you'll get everything from the cheerleader pledge level and 3 SNDS ninja decks along with a bonus Deck for being such an early bird. These can be chosen from the Standard and any unlocked Extended range decks.

At the £20 pledge level you'll get everything from the cheerleader pledge level and 4 SNDS ninja decks. These can be chosen from the Standard range and any unlocked Extended Decks.

At the £25 pledge level you'll get everything from the cheerleader pledge level and 5 SNDS ninja decks along with a bonus deck for being such an early bird. These can be chosen from the Standard and any unlocked Extended range decks.

If we reach £25k in pledges then you will also get the KS Exclusive Silver foiled deck. The Silver deck will NOT be available after the campaign nor can it be purchased as an add on.

At the £30 pledge level you'll get everything from the cheerleader pledge level and 4 SNDS ninja decks. These can be chosen from the Standard range and any unlocked Extended Decks.

If we reach £25k in pledges then you will also get the KS Exclusive Silver foiled deck. The Silver deck will NOT be available after the campaign nor can it be purchased as an add on.

At the £60 pledge level you'll get everything from the cheerleader pledge level and 10 SNDS ninja decks along with 2 bonus decks for being such an early bird. These can be chosen from the Standard and any unlocked Extended range decks. You will also get the matching waterproof gamemat for each of your chosen decks.

If we reach £25k in pledges then you also get the KS Exclusive Gold foiled deck. The Gold deck will NOT be available after the campaign nor can it be purchased as an add on.

At the £84 pledge level you'll get everything from the cheerleader pledge level and 12 SNDS ninja decks. These can be chosen from the Standard and any unlocked Extended range decks. You also get the matching waterproof gamemat for each of your chosen decks.

If we reach £25k in pledges then you also get the KS Exclusive Gold foiled deck. The Gold deck will NOT be available after the campaign nor can it be purchased as an add on.

The 'Girl Ninja' Set has 3D and artwork all ready to go, they just need final rendering/photography. The colours are not '100% fixed' yet as we have to match across multiple machines and ensure that we get the widest contrast possible for those players who have vision issues. It is likely it will come down to 12 colours to choose from in the standard range.

The 'Boy Ninja' Set has a lot of 3D work left to do as well as rendering. This unlocks if we reach £5k as that frees up a small amount of time for us to work on SNDS instead of our day to day clients.

The 'Multi Skin Colour' options are reskinning and rework of the standard colour cards. These unlock along with the 'Boy Set' at £5k given we can spend extra time on SNDS.

Having SNDS as easy to translate as possible was a high priority. There is no wording on the cards themselves so the only thing that needs translating is the instructions.

If you are happy to volunteer to translate that would be brilliant, we'll add you to the special thanks section and include a link on the HD website. Whatever languages we do not get volunteers for we will get translated by a professional service.

Included in all the Decks are 3 hit location cards which you place on the table in front of you during setup. We also have a completely optional gamemat which can be used instead of the hit location cards. These are designed around the decks they are paired with. After the campaign these will available to buy at £3 so you get them at 33% off during the KS campaign. All gamemats sold during the KS campaign will be KS exclusive double sided versions. Post campaign only standard single sided versions will be available.

They are also bloodproof...we...erm...found this out by accident when we were making the samples.

During playtesting we found they are also Beer and Mango Cider proof as well....

There are a few things which can be added on to any pledge level of £10 or more.

  • £5 - an additional deck from the standard or extended range. These will ALL be available post campaign at the retail price of £7.50 per deck.
  • £7 - an additional deck from the charity range. These will ALL be available post campaign at the retail price of £7.50 per deck.
  • £2 Water/Bloodproof/Ciderproof coloured Hit Location Game Mats. Post campaign the single sided version has an RRP of £3. Note these are double sided for KS backers only. Only the single sided versions will be available after the campaign ends.
  • £2 - Personalise ONE deck with your own name in the artwork.  This can be used for the standard, extended and metallic ranges.
  • £20 - Personal Pose Deck (Your own action poses etc...dress up, have fun...but bear in mind we are going to need 67 action pose photos).
  • £10 (locked) an additional deck from the Metallic range. These will be available post campaign at the retail price of £15 per deck. Note that Silver and Gold decks are reserved as bonus awards for 6 and 12 Ninja pledge levels only and will NOT be available any other way during or after the campaign!
  • £5 (locked) A 78 card 'Arena and Abilities' expansion. This adds random global effects and individual ninja powers into the base game to add even more fun and chaos to the mix. This is enough cards for up to 39 players.
  • £5 (locked) A set of 4 hardwaring, engraved, SNDS acrylic coasters with baize backing. These unlock at the £25k stretch goal.

While the campaign is running we are having gameplay meetups where people can come along and play a few games. The first one will be located in Bedford and we will give out more details as it is finalised with the venue.

If you have a gaming group/get together then get in contact and we'll see if we can come to you.

We would like to say special thanks to all the people who have given us encouragement and support getting to this point.  Most especially to our playtesters. Simon, Mark, Dominic, Elle, James, Allan, Pete, & Steph.

Also, many thanks to Rob at the Standard in Bedford for allowing us to take over part of his Pub for our playtest.

And especially to the following stores who have kindly allowed us space to put leaflets and information up for people to find.

Hopefully we will be able to arrange a meetup at FP London and if the campaign goes really well some special glowing cyber ninjas!

Risks and challenges

We already handle multi delivery for multiple clients all the time using a wide range of production chains so we do not expect any production issues. That being said, s***t happens and all deliveries are insured so IF you do not receive your pledge reward we can always send another out to you.

Or you can always come and collect from our factory and avoid the delivery cost completely!

The biggest risk is getting overwhelmed. For example, if we hit 3k Ninjas we have to store, pack and send out 7 pallets of custom made tins. To get the custom tins made is 10 weeks which gives us all the time we need to print and cut all the cards though so it is 'manageable' if we hire a small storage unit for a month. Then it is just down to the labour intensive pick, pack and post. Higher campaign levels require the installation of machinery or negotiating for workspace which would likely push deliveries back a little if there are any delays, but everyone will be kept fully informed and we plan to have 'open days' for you to pop along to if you want.

That being said, there are only two of us plus a bunch of people we can rope into helping so we also have a fully outsourced 'OMFG' failsafe production chain option at larger overall campaign levels (£25k+) just in case of random ninja star attacks on either of us! All local companies, all environmentally friendly and so on.

Delivery Costs
All delivery costs are being charged separately on campaign completion and the costs per pledge level are rough estimates only right now. Part way through the campaign we will have a much better idea of the volumes we need to deliver and can get more accurate prices as we can negotiate with the relevant companies.

All deliveries will be insured for loss/damage so if you have any problems let us know and we will sort it asap!
