Help us create the first free performing arts conservatory for teens in Western Washington.
What is it? The Conservatory for Young Actors is a truly unique, classical acting experience for teens aged 12-19. The participating students will be joined this summer by their mentors, three professional theater artists (including JourneyQuest's very own Christian Doyle). The Conservatory will focus on these major elements:
- Voice and diction
Why is it important? Empowering our youth is about more than sending them somewhere exciting for the summer. With arts programs being cut in schools and the pressures of life intensifying, kids have fewer and fewer opportunities to express themselves through creative outlets. The universally valuable skills that these kids will learn at the Conservatory will enable them to succeed in all aspects of their lives: in their community, at home, and at school. The Conservatory for Young Actors provides a safe place to take risks, explore ideas, make mistakes, express individuality, create art, and support others in a positive way.
What makes us unique? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share the magic of theater with young people for six amazing weeks this summer. While many acting programs offer scholarship opportunities for low-income students, what sets us apart is that we will never base participation on ability to pay. Our goal is to take money out of the equation in order to focus on what young people bring to the table: talent, passion, and commitment to building a better self and a better community.
We need your support! We need you to help us launch the Conservatory for Young Actors! The additional underwriting raised through Kickstarter will make it possible for 3 professional actors to spend their summer mentoring these kids, helping them to hone their skills and produce their very own, student-led production, Scenes in Progress, on July 31st.
Donations are tax deductible! Our dedicated team works with Harlequin Productions, the nonprofit organization behind the Conservatory for Young Actors. All contributors will receive a tax receipt upon completion of the campaign.
Act Now! You will find a variety of donation options listed on the right. Whether or not you are able to make a monetary contribution, we invite you to be a part of our community and keep up with the Conservatory through our website.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have mentors, we have the location, and we have dozens of deserving kids. Our team of theater professionals is not only qualified to teach our programs, but are passionate about providing a magical theater experience for the next generation of kids.
Our only challenge is raising $4,000 in this Kickstarter campaign in order to take the next step in launching the Conservatory, and that's where you come in!
We have already accepted students into this program and will accept many more after auditions on May 18th. This program will happen in June regardless of our success on Kickstarter, but we would operate at a serious loss. The money earned from this Kickstarter campaign goes directly to the costs of the program: instructors, equipment, space rental, and more.
