GET CLOSE TO BROADWAY....
Join the "Parade" of Supporters as THE MUSIC MAN marches into town this summer for all to enjoy !
The Harbor Lights Theater Company was founded in 2010 with a mission to illuminate the human experience through the highest quality theatrical productions and arts education within the borough of Staten Island. In the last year alone, we have brought over 35 Broadway artists, including Tony, Grammy, Oscar, Emmy, Drama Desk and Obie Award winners and nominees to perform on our stages, making Broadway affordable and accessible to the people of Staten Island, New Jersey, Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. Founders Tamara Jenkins, Jay Montgomery, Beth Gittleman and Peter Poliakine are pouring their lives, and years of experience and connections into creating a jewel of a theater company for all to enjoy.
About our project
Veteran Broadway actors need your help.
Next up for Harbor Lights (HLTC) is The Music Man, by Meredith Willson, to be produced July 8 -17, 2011 on the grounds of the beautiful Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island, just minutes from the Staten Island Ferry. We need your assistance to nurture the next generation of theater lovers, and to make the dreams of 25 local actors -- adults, children, and youth, and a local marching band -- a reality!
These multi-talented local actors and children have the opportunity to perform in a Broadway classic, directed by Broadway Director Ray Roderick (Associate Director of the 2000 Broadway revival of The Music Man, A Christmas Carol, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), and starring a cast of Broadway actors, including Tony-nominated Staten Island resident Larry Marshall (veteran of 14 Broadway shows), Patti Mariano (veteran of 12 Broadway shows, who, as an 11 year old, appeared in the original production of The Music Man with Robert Preston!), Rebecca Baxter (Broadway's Jekyll and Hyde, Meet Me In St. Louis, Cinderella at New York City Opera) and Jay Montgomery (Broadway's Falsettos, Heart Strings National Tour), with choreography by Broadway vet and former Bob Fosse Assistant -- and life long Staten Island resident -- Mimi Quillin. We are bringing our nation's finest to work with our community's best; and Staten Island has a chance to see a first class production at an affordable price in their own backyard!
Help us to make this production the most inspiring, uplifting one possible for all involved, from the performers, to the crew working behind the scenes to, most importantly, our Staten Island Community! Toward that end, Harbor Lights is asking for financial assistance. The Music Man requires 125 costumes and a set recreating a small town in Iowa circa 1912; your donations will help us execute a first class production for all to enjoy! And you can call yourself an "Angel" along the way!
An affectionate paean to Smalltown, USA of a bygone era, Meredith Wilson's The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boy's band he vows to organize. He is transformed into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.
HLTC is pleased to be able to bring this heartwarming story to the New York City area. Oh, and did we mention, we also have a National Baton Twirling Champion performing as well?
