Chronicles: The Game is a tabletop fantasy miniature strategy game and the first of its kind Online Community Role Playing Game (OCRPG). As a miniature strategy game, two players will command armies of finely crafted, single-piece miniatures representing the powerful factions of the world of Indagar, waging battle to claim victory.
In the OCRPG, you can get involved with other players around the world both on and off the tabletop: build your Faction’s power, drive the storyline of Indagar from season to season, and create the strongest miniature gaming community ever conceived through artwork and narrative contributions, political outreach, and military conquest.
Indagar, its name meaning the Land of Magic, is a continent in the middle of the known world, home to collage of cultures, foreign setters and native peoples whose history stretches back to the dawn of civilization. For the past 1000 years, the peoples of Indagar had been bound together under the banner of the Republic, started first by foreigners who came to Indagar by way of the eastern seas and earned their independence through a war of succession with their homeland, the despotic Minsheng Empire. It was these people who first discovered the Well, a place where the essence of magic seeps to the surface of the world, and first developed the technology to transform and distill the waters of the well into Spirits,, a crystalline, drug-like form of magic with powerful, enhancing abilities that could be traded and sold.
Through the trade of Spirits, these foreigners grew into a world power, and using diplomacy, education, and armies fueled by Spirits, they became the Republic. The ongoing wars between the different nations and peoples of Indagar ceased as the Republic slowly brought them all under its banner into a combined, democratic, nation. Indagar had entered a golden age that would last for 1000 years..
Yet, something sinister lurked in the Spirit drugs. It festered there for a millennia. Over time, it poisoned the magic of Spirits, slowly seeping into the bodies of generations of powerful leaders, nobility, and invaded all walks of life. And during the 1000th year celebration of the creation of the Republic, it made manifest, destroying the capital city of the Republic, Konagara, in a night known as the Cataclysm.
After 1000 years of peace, prosperity, and combined rule, the various nations of Indagar who were once allies now find themselves again without authority. Worse, the power which rent the world during the Cataclysm, has seeped into their cultures, poisoning the minds of leaders and implanting the sinister desires of power lust, greed, and destruction.
It has been 4 years since the Cataclysm. Grotesque creatures known as demons have been spotted roaming the lands, the people have become insular and hostile, and old rivalries, some dating back to the start of the Republic, have rekindled. War is coming.
The Kingdom of Arkland
With the Republic fallen, Arkland is now the richest and most powerful of the torn nations of Indagar. A medieval society, ruled by a king and nine barons, Arkland began as foreigners escaping a famine from across the seas, who settled Indagar as a new home. Arkland has grown rich as a naval trading power, and now seeks to apply that power to reunite Indagar under its banner. Backed by a powerful, professional, and well funded military, Arkland marches to battle with strong, gleaming steel and disciplined, well-trained soldiers.
Yet, a powerful force has awoken in Arkland over the past 100 years known as the Light of Arkland. For most of its history, no Arklander had ever been able to control the forces of magic, but a century ago, the Light of Arkland appeared and commands what he calls the Magic of Light. A populist religion sprung up around the Light, and soon, a militant order of magic wielding Priests and Paladins have been fostered to further the religion. This ongoing struggle between the Light and the old nobility of Arkland has created an inner divide which threatens to throw the country into civil war.
The Great Forest Tribes
The Great Forest is cover nearly a quarter of the continent of Indagar, deep inside the Spine mountain chain which forms the caldera of a now instinct super volcano. It is a forest beyond imagination, overgrown by the power of magic. Inside live the Great Forest Tribes, a disparate group of fiercely individualistic tribes who live in villages spread all throughout and living off the bounty of their magical forestland. The Tribes are more numerous than all other nations of Indagar, but they are insular, having always preferred to stay within their realm and with the natural barrier of the magical horrors of the forest keeping all others out.
The Tribes, although never claimed by the Republic, were never a threat. They are not federated, each village maintaining its own rule and often infighting with their neighbors. However, since the Cataclysm, the magic that sustains the forest has been poisoned, and the wood is dying. The ancient order of Bear Shamans who control the magic of the forest blame the outsiders. With their way of life threatened, the Tribes have began to come together and leave the forest. The earth trembles as a horde of fierce warriors, men who can transform into beasts, and powerful magic users has come upon the land of Indagar, eager to seek vengeance for the wrongs that have been wrought upon them.
The Ramal Nations
A people of the desert, native to Indagar since before written history, the Ramal Nations are a loose federation of city states who thrive in the south eastern Sand Seas of Indagar. Having once been tiny villages dotting the three major rivers of the region, living destitute lives under constant threat of raiders and bandits, the desert people were desperate for a better life. The Ramaltas, the powerful kings and queens of the Ramal Nations, were warlords who brought peace and prosperity to the desert by establishing cities and conquering the desert nomads. The Ramaltas themselves are leaders of underworld organizations, maintaining their grip on power through shadow organizations such as the Unbodied and Blood Cults, but the people of the Sand Seas see them as their saviors.
Having discovered the power of Blood Magic, and having since seen the power of that magic amplify since the Cataclysm, the often overlooked and under-appreciated nation of the Republic now is looking beyond its own border, across the sands to Arkland, the steppes of the Stars, and Great Forest.
Chronicles offers a very rich and vast lore. The WIKI has over 500 pages of information about the history of Indagar and its peoples.
You can read about Arkland Paladins who manifest light magic through fire, Bear Shamans who can transform at will into powerful Werebears, and the Blood Cult Assassins of the Ramal Nations, super human specters of death.

9.6.2017 - We just got back from the NOVA Open and had a chance to quickly interview and talk with our first Baron of Arkland! Mike will be one of the Faction leaders in the OCRPG moving into the pre-season and Season 1! We're super excited to start working with him on building the story of Indagar. We're also working on getting in touch with our first Great Chieftain as well!

This material is lighter than HDF and due to its flexibility it gives us the possibility for adding curved surfaces to our models. What is the OCRPG?
The OCRPG is a first of its kind innovation to empower player involvement in a gaming community. It is an online social platform where anyone who wants to be involved in shaping Indagar, the world of Chronicles, can create an account and begin creating their own destiny. Your account represents your character and pledges to one of the Factions of Chronicles.You will use this account to interact as part of the community and also to help progress the storyline of Chronicles from season to season.
With an OCRPG account, you can connect with other members in the Chronicles community, including the developers of the game, using a familiar social platform. You can post art or browse the gallery, read player submitted narratives, like posts and comments, ask or answer rules questions, and even use it to find players in your area to battle. You can also use it to discover new podcasts, artists, YouTube channels, and to buy or sell player made Chronicles gear, even alternative sculpts of models!
More importantly, you can use it to keep track of the current standings of every Faction in Indagar as they progress, and the decisions of Faction leadership (who are ACTUAL PLAYERS!) will determine how the ongoing storyline of Chronicles progresses each season.
We want to encourage the passion that players put into tabletop gaming, and create a place for all of that energy to contribute to the ever evolving story of Chronicles!

With your OCRPG account, you can do all the things that we all already love to do with our favorite miniature games, but you will earn experience points for doing it!

As your account levels up, so too does your value to your Faction! To progress the story in the direction they want, Faction Leaders will NEED strong community members to excel in the areas of Art, Narrative, Politics, and Military.
Each Season, the Factions will be presented with story options to define their goals, and they will need YOU to be apart of that success by earning experience and participating in the community. What happens as a result of a season becomes actual canon in the story of Chronicles and sets the stage for the next chapters. Heroes will be born, and cites may burn!
Entire Factions may be sent into exile! Your Faction might be the next super power on Indagar! Even if you don’t play Chronicles, you can still be involved in supporting the community and fueling your Faction.
Be the actual King of Arkland!
Every Faction in the OCRPG has leaders who are ACTUAL PLAYERS! These leaders will work with game and story developers to craft decision points and goals for each season, which will drive the living story of the world. They are the primary points of contact for developers to the members of their Faction, responsible for rallying their Faction to new heights, identifying their best artists, writers, and players for representing the Faction, and the primary key to a Faction’s success or failure.
After Season 1, Leaders will be elected officials who have to run for office! But for the first season, these individuals will be determined first by our Kickstarter Backers.
Chronicles: The Game is a fantasy, miniature strategy game where players will enact battles on the tabletop using armies they have constructed.
Chronicles the Game features the following innovations for miniature game players:
- Custom d10 dice means Chronicles has no charts, tables, or math!
- Single piece, 32 mm miniatures so you can play right away.
- The Dynamic Unit Formation (DUF) provides the tactical maneuver of a skirmish style game while providing the speed and scale necessary for a full blown war game!
- Chronicles is won and lost on smart choices and outmaneuvering your opponent, not on random dice rolls and luck.
- Free form movement, not restricted by squares, templates, or unit formations, allows you to get the most out of the movement-based tactics of the game.
- The Chronicles Rulebook is tiny in comparison to most miniature games of its scale. It’s easier to understand and is designed to be accessible by anyone.
- Chronicles’ terrain rules are very simple, innovative, and effective, creating a fast game play experience while utilizing all your battlefield terrain. No more balancing your models on your beautiful terrain!
- Chronicles uses simple-to-understand cards that represent the abilities of models, and a single Faction card to describe the rules for your Faction. You don’t need a large tome of rules at your tabletop to play with your Faction.
Chronicles will feature a truly living ruleset. Each season, a new copy of the printed rules will be made available with the current updates. During each season, the Chronicles rules are also freely available on our searchable wiki!
This wiki will be updated on demand, with answers to frequently asked questions or clarifications. You won’t be left in the dark about necessary rules updates or fixes! Those changes will then become part of the printed rules for the next season’s book.
The same is true of all model and faction cards. The wiki can be updated on the fly to apply fixes, and the printed materials will be updated at the start of each season.
Standard and Online Mode
The OCRPG can affect your tabletop games as well. Should you and your opponent choose to play using Online Mode, your armies will be built according to the current happenings of the season in the OCRPG. This might restrict you to certain builds, models, or strategies. It might also provide new season specific scenarios!
Of course, you can always just choose to play using Standard Mode, which is the game as-is.
What else for players?
In combination with the OCRPG, players earn experience points for reporting battle results, attending tournaments, and becoming their faction’s champion. We can use this data to establish player rankings and leaderboards while improving our game!
Our stretch goals unlock either new Factions or new game components. For our Faction stretch goals, (Ramal and Scions), these will become a selectable option for your Starter Boxes! For our model and card stretch goals, you will receive a free model and the cards in your Starter Box specific to your Faction!
We will be collecting shipping after the Kickstarter, once we have determined actual shipping costs for your order. We want to be as fair as possible to all our backers as shipping is rarely one size fits all, and also give you more stretch goodies and possibly a choice of carrier options.
We will process your shipping via a direct transaction after we have an actual quote for you. This will likely occur through Stripe or Paypal, but may be open to other means of payment.
Happy Gorilla Game Studio believes strongly that support from retail stores is 110% critical to our success. After all, we are all about our community, as that is the core of the Chronicle's story! Without places to commune and play, there can be no community.
We are offering a Retail Pledge Level, which is appropriately costed at wholesale pricing with the expectation that our current pledge values will be at or slightly more for MSRP. Proof of retail store ownership is required.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter, and although we have done a ton of due diligence and preparation, including setting up standing quotes from our manufacturers and working with our 3rd party partners, this is a learning process for us! Our main manufacturer is in China, so there are some details in terms of timing when it comes to anything produced there, including possible production, shipping, or customs delays.
We have done everything we can to be ready so that we can turn-around this project as quickly as possible and get Chronicles in your hands! As you can see from our video and pictures, we have already had an initial production of minis, and all the cards, artwork, rulebook, and more are ready for production. The OCRPG is also currently in a beta-development stage and has been under development for over a year.
The estimated delivery date is April 2018, but keep in mind this only our best estimate. Also, due to the logistics of international shipping, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others.
We've done our best to minimize this as much as possible, and we are always happy to refund pledges if for some totally unforeseen reason your pledge can't be delivered. Since the game is essentially complete (90+%), we don't believe this is at all likely.
We can refund your pledge within 14 days of the campaign’s end, fees included. After that, we have a policy that you stick with our mutual commitment, no questions asked. As a first time company, we do not have a large bank account available to us to be able to fund portions of the game or stretch goals ourselves. We hope you understand.
Refunds within 14 days will be issued directly either via Paypal or Stripe.
This project is being funded in USD and any refunds processed will be in USD for the exact amount received in USD, excluding any applicable fees, depending on the time of the refund being processed.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the final look, materials and content of the rewards (and the project) are subject to change and may differ substantially from what is presented while the Kickstarter project was active.
If you do not log in and confirm your pledge within 8 weeks of our notification via email to confirm your pledge, you agree that we have fulfilled our obligations to you in full for payment or donations received. However, we may, at our discretion, refund or ship your pledge if you contact us and confirm your pledge after the 8 week window has elapsed. Unconfirmed pledges make it difficult for us to plan production and logistics, and could risk project delays. For this project we do not intend to allow this to happen, which may mean if you confirm your pledge too late, some items may not be produced in sufficient quantity for your pledge.
If you confirm your pledge within 8 weeks of our notification via email, you agree that our responsibility to you is to ship your order specified by post kickstarter communications, that title and risk passes to you upon delivery to a common carrier for such shipment, and you are responsible for import duties or any other duties that may be payable to the relevant tax authorities, providing correct address information and ensuring this address is deliverable by normal methods. We regret that we are unable to ship to PO Boxes.
