WE ARE NOW TRYING TO RAISE £3500!
We have hit our £2000 Kickstarter target, which means we can print our first run of books! This is AWESOME!
With our remaining time, we are trying desperately to raise enough money to print a larger run of books, so it remains widely available once this Kickstarter is finished.
If we can raise £3500, we can print lots more books - and distribute them through Apple, Waterstones, Barnes & Noble, Amazon. BlinkBox, Kobo, OverDrive, Google and Scrib’d.
Only you can make it happen for us! Thank you so much yet again!
Mythical adventurer, Alexander McCuba, is a burly, bearded, simple-minded man of the Guild of Adventurers. Whilst on a prestigious quest to harvest the rum of the Great Extravaganza (whatever that is), he attempts to fight the sea - and ends up marooned on a mysterious island.
We have come into possession of his private diary from the island. Entry by baffling entry, it documents his experiences with the curious inhabitants, their bizarre customs and his own struggles with homesickness, madness and lack-of-rum…ness.
A Rum Run Awry takes McCuba's journal in its purest form (complete with all the original rantings, ravings, scribblings and sketches) and enhances it with 100 pages of glorious illustrations, rumoured to have been painted on the island itself by McCuba’s comrade, Le Yeti.
The result is stupefying.
It looks like Disney on acid!
It reads like the ramblings of a madman!
IT IS the ramblings of a madman!
It's 300+ painstakingly crafted pages of utter madness, beautifully hand-illustrated and entirely unique in the world of print media.
The only way to get a copy of A Rum Run Awry at its special launch price is by pledging money here and now. By doing so, you'll also be helping us get it into bookshops by increasing the number of books we can print.
This book documents Ed Gamester’s journey through the mind of Darrell Thorpe.
Darrell has always drawn bizarre creatures and characters. Nobody has ever understood what they are, let alone how they relate to each other. Having worked with Darrell for years, Ed eventually took it upon himself to try and learn about Darrell’s characters, and explain them to the world.
In the Autumn of 2013, finding himself penniless and in dire need of an adventure, Ed quit his job and dived straight into Darrell’s brain.
A year later, he emerged. This book documents his findings.
Your contributions have already made our book a reality, so please - take a peek inside and see what's coming your way:
Along with copies of the book and unique prints, we have managed to persuade Darrell to part with some of his much-loved hand-painted pieces, as rewards for your kind contributions to our Kickstarter. They're all one-off, entirely unique pieces - and this is the first time they have ever been available to the outside world.
We also got Ed to agree to wrestle for your entertainment, and even teach you how to create your own fight scenes
Here are just some of the rewards on offer:
Risks and challenges
The content of the book is finished. It's done. It's written, illustrated and annotated.
What we desperately need from you kind people is the funding to send it to the printer. Without that, it will forever exist as a pile o' crumpled pages behind Darrell's desk.
Once we have submitted the files, the printing and cataloguing process should take about a month. If the proof isn't as awesome as it should be, we might have to tweak and resubmit the files - but that should only add a few weeks onto the overall project.
Other than that, the only potential delay would be caused by thousands of you backing the project, at which point we would have to take some holiday and buy an awful lot of stamps.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
