Imagine walking in, to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and home made pastries, then sitting down and having a chatty kitten welcome you and rub your leg asking for a warm lap. You are in the Happy Cat Cafe in Grand Rapids.
Help us with our Kickstarter to make the first Cat Cafe in Michigan, serving cat lovers and saving local cats and kittens, a reality. MeeWow.
For any donation over $10, you will literally become part of the cafe. We are offering every backer $10 and over a place on the “Thank You” wall, ranging from 12 pt font to large photo frames for individuals and businesses.
Other rewards include T-shirts, CLOWDER early access tickets, launch party invites, behind the scenes passes, and the limited edition mug club memberships. You can even sponsor a free community yoga class for a year for $5000 to give back health to low income locals.
Why a Cat Cafe?Cats are good for us, but not everyone can own their own cats. And sadly, not every cat has a human. Cats in shelters need our help.
How do we solve these problems?
A CAT CAFE!
Happy Cat Cafe is half gourmet coffee-shop, half cat adoption center. You can purchase a specialty coffee and bakery item, pull out a good book, and relax while a cat cuddles up on your lap. The best part is, if you meet your new best friend, you will be able to adopt him or her from a local non-profit shelter partner.
We are revolutionizing the way people adopt pets.

The Cafe Grows Grand Rapids
Our city has seen such a magnificent transformation in the last 20 years. The cafe will continue build on that by:
- Partnering and supporting local shelters.
- Providing a popular tourist destination.
- Building on the West Michigan craft coffee movement.
- Partnering with local businesses.
- Giving back to the Grand Rapids community in adoption fundraisers, free community workshops, and educational services.
Who Am I?
I'm Kati Palmurkar, founder of Happy Cat Cafe. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, I am passionate and inspired to make Grand Rapids the best city it can be, all while improving the lives of it's human and cat citizens. I am a self defined crazy cat lady, but I’m not crazy when it comes to business.
My husband and partner, Adarsh Palmurkar, attended Ferris State and Western Michigan for Mechanical Engineering, and started his own IT company. We know we are the best people to make this cafe happen. We are passionate, dedicated, and willing to do what it takes to make Happy Cat Cafe a reality!
Our Progress and Timeline
You've watched our transformation from a simple idea to a fledgling business. None of our progress would have been possible without any of you! <3
But there's still a long road ahead...
How We'll Use the Funds
Every dollar we raise will go towards making Happy Cat the best cat cafe it can be!
Risks and challenges
1. Finding a Suitable Location
We have a good idea where the Happy Cat Cafe will be, but we haven't found the right space yet for our unique needs. We are looking everyday, so we could find a location during the Kickstarter, check for updates!
2. Health Department Review
We are working with the Health Department to ensure compliance with Health Code. We will need to submit our business plan to the zoning board. This process should not take long, but could be a potential challenge.
