Something Fragile is a poetic, visually unique, highly textural puzzle platforming game. Originally concepted and prototyped by Happy Badger Studio during the 2013 Global Game Jam in St. Louis, all of the art was created with physical media like fabrics and paper, and brought to life with stop-motion animation.
In Something Fragile, you are a creature created for the sole purpose of protecting the heart that you were given. As this creature, you must progress through the levels and overcome the puzzles in order to carry the heart past the obstacles and through the environmental threats.The challenge of the game is to keep the heart safe throughout all of the puzzles, which will require the heart to be placed in harm's way in order to get it through each level safely. The moment the heart is placed on the ground, it is immediately vulnerable to the environment, and similarly, the moment the creature gets too far away from the heart, both it and the heart perish.
Everyone on the Happy Badger Studio team feels very strongly that games can be as artistic and emotional of an experience as any artistic medium, so for the Global Game Jam 2013, this is exactly what we sought to create. The idea behind Something Fragile is that you are this creature fighting through challenges and overcoming obstacles to protect a heart that does not belong to you — this represents the challenges we face every day with love and relationships.
Our whole team was able to come to a solid understanding that this allegory is what the game should communicate, so we are all very excited about creating a poetic experience to bring you closer to your own concept of what love is, what love can be, and what love should be.
Who We Are
Happy Badger Studio is a small game development team located in St. Louis, MO. Our core development team have very diverse backgrounds, but managed to come together after discovering a shared passion for making unique interactive experiences. Each of us consistently strives to learn, grow, and create interesting and creative games. From cute and offbeat to artistic and breathtaking, we make games that we love to play, and are proud to share with you.

Why We Need Your Help
This project is something we intend to work on regardless of funding, but with your help, we can make it our primary focus and really devote the energy to make it the great work of art that it deserves to be. With your help, we will be able to devote the time, purchase software, product licenses, physical materials, marketing, etc.
At the rate we are currently able to manage with this project without funding, it could take years. If we reach our Kickstarter goal, however, we can decrease that timeframe to just a couple of hard-working months, and we can create an exceptional game than we would otherwise not have the capacity to produce.

Risks and challenges
Game development is a complicated process, so there are always going to be risks and challenges associated as far as production timelines go. Fortunately, we already have a working prototype of what we call "Level 0," which is a great proof-of-concept for what we intend to do.
Based on our current situation, it's very difficult for us to devote a lot of time to Something Fragile, because much of our time is spent working on client projects as our sole source of funding. Backed by alternative funding that we hope to raise through Kickstarter, we will be able to devote much more time, energy, and effort to the development of Something Fragile.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
