Dear listeners and friends:
I’ve been writing songs about hope and longing and loss; songs about the risks we take to find and lose love; songs about sweet summers, sobering autumns, and the grateful spring times of life.
These new songs are ready to come to life! Let's bring them into the studio, embrace and embody them with a full band, rile 'em up with steel and fiddle! Then we'll iron them out onto an album, which I will be able to send to you, dear listener.
This is my most ambitious project yet. A full-length (12-14) song album, with the delights and challenges of producing the album myself, together with my band and an amazing, Grammy-award-winning engineer, Julian Dreyer.
As an artist, I am relishing these challenges. But as a human, I can’t stand alone. Want to see a little more beauty and truth in the world? Me, too. That’s why I am inviting you to be a part of this Kickstarter campaign.
Let's make something beautiful, together.
To create an ambitious and beautiful project, it truly takes a village. I am asking you, if you believe in the art I am making, to jump into this project with me.
Part of my village is the local arts councils* - and because of them, I have a running start to this Kickstarter campaign. Thanks to them, this past December I received a $1,000 Regional Artist Project Grant.
Another part of my village is the musicians of Asheville, especially the ones who have mentored me and who have helped nurture my songs by playing in my band, Heartbreak Highlight Reel.
Still a third part of my village is this wonderful engineer/producer, Julian Dreyer, who will be helping me as I produce this album.
But you - you are the linchpin for the whole project. You the listeners who actually believe in me as an artist and songwriter - it is up to you to bring this music into the world. You are my song midwives and art doulas.
*This grant is sponsored by: the Toe River Arts Council (Mitchell and Yancey Counties); Madison County Arts Council; The Asheville Area Arts Council (Buncombe County) with support from Avery County and the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Cultural Resources Department.
Financial Details
To create this ambitious piece of art, I will need your help. But I also expect that you want to see transparency from me. Here is the breakdown of the expenses for this full-length album:

Two More Ways to Help:
1. Come to my Altamont Theatre show on May 19th, and bring friends! My full band and I will be playing a very special show at Asheville's premier listening room. You will hear many of the new songs that will be recorded on the new album.
2. Share my songs, videos, and this Kickstarter page with your friends on Facebook and Instagram during the month of May, including your own comments about why you enjoy this music.
Thank you for listening!
xoxo

About the Rewards
The descriptions of the rewards can be found in the right vertical column on this page. But here are photos of some of the rewards, from stickers to salves.

Risks and challenges
Project risks and challenges include:
-- Working with humans :-)
-- Time constraints related to the Regional Artist Project Grant (the recording of the new album must be finished by the end of 2017).
-- Moving the project forward as I continue to work my other job.
How I am addressing these challenges:
By asking for support and assistance from my community, my fans, my manager, and my very supportive work environment. This is my second Kickstarter campaign and my hope is that the challenges of this creative process will enable me to grow as an artist and connect more with y'all, my listeners, fans, and broader community.
