FIRST TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED! (Many more to come!)
Dear friends, lovers, and first time walk-ins,
We are Hank & Cupcakes. Hank is a guy who plays bass guitar with tons of pedals like a mad scientist. Cupcakes is a girl who needs lots of attention & stimulation, so she sings, while she plays drums, while standing up.
Hank & Cupcakes were born in a tiny little country in the Middle East called Israel. They moved to the place where dreams are made, Brooklyn NY, to start a band that plays raw edgy indie electro-rock-pop. They are completely independent, they are partners, friends, band mates & lovers..
Chapter 1 - CA$H 4 GOLD
For the past ten months we've been hidden away in Brooklyn far away from the road and the spotlight to work on the BEST music we’ve ever made. We’re calling it CA$H 4 GOLD. This album was made completely independently & unconventionally. The basic bass & drums were recorded at the awesome Vibromonk Studios by Dan Shatzky (Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beatbox). But if you lean in closer, you'll hear vocals recorded in the subway, Strings recorded in industrial staircases, sounds from constructions sites, songs with 6 bass guitars & multiple drum sets, broken pipes, gas Balloons, the sound of rain, a lot of love and our entire soul.
Chapter 2 - THE BIG TOUR
10 months off the road is a big pause for us, our favorite part of being a band is touring! We’ve missed you so much we don’t know who we are anymore! To make up for lost time, we intend to spend the remainder of 2014 and the ENTIRE year of 2015 on the road.
Chapter 3 - THE TOUR VAN
AKA: The Funk Mobile, The Party Transporter, The Love Mover, The 4x4 Booty Factory
Our biggest expense on the road is the cost of renting a van. We've started this campaign so that we can raise enough cash to buy one. We're not spoilt, we're going to buy your basic cargo van BUT this baby needs to take us all over the country without breaking down. We can't imagine canceling a show because of car problems and wouldn't dream of doing it to our amazing audience.
Chapter 4 - MAKE IT BIGGER
Getting the means to tour in is the main goal of this campaign, we have so much more to do with any additional money we can raise. Being on tour for an entire year is an ambitious project for an independent band with no funding. Other than buying a van, things like gas, car insurance & accommodation are just a few of the big expenses we meet on the road. The more money we raise, the more places we can go. We want to reach you wherever you are!!
"In order to move from place to place, a band needs a motorized vehicle." Isaac Newton said that once, after conducting a gravity experiment involving large amounts of beer, a funnel and a large hose which he voluntarily held in his mouth. Einstein later added that there is a necessity for space in the vehicle for amplification and sound instigating equipment. Otherwise, he feared the band would be as quiet as a gentle butterfly flapping it's wings in the midst of a crowded bar.
Or in simpler non-scientific words: EURIKA!! WE NEED A VAN!
"if you haven't heard the band's infectious blend of electro-pop goodness, then look no further than their latest video, "Ain't No Love." - MTV Buzzworthy
"Hank & Cupcakes offer a lot more substance than their fluffy namesake implies. In fact, the bustling synthpop outfit…have been imparting a gritty realism to their dance tracks." - MTV Hive
"Funky fresh sound" - New York Post
"…irresistibly danceable" - Paste
"Fresh new artist" - MTV.com
Risks and challenges
Being completely independent is a path we chose after experiencing the 'other side' of the music industry. We were signed to a major label only a year ago, we had a manager, publicist, agent, you name it. But at the end of the day, it seemed that no one knew exactly what to do with us, so we decided if anyone does know, it should be us. Doing everything, and we mean EVERYTHING ourselves has it's challenges, we are only 2 people and we've taken on a pile of new professions! When it comes to working hard we're a little crazy. We'll do anything it takes to get everything done. With your support we feel we can move forward on the one thing standing in our way which is funding. You guys are our record label, our share holders, our believers. We couldn't do this without you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
