I am making my first album after evolving as an artist for ten years. I need your help to make it happen and I am excited to take this journey with you as listeners and friends.
I've spent my life exploring the world of theatre, artists, education, and music. In all my wanderings I come across people. People who stimulate each other to connect and to create. Communities with a palpable desire to grow and revive. I'm happy to say I've been swept up in it all and find myself surrounded by projects and dreams that truly bring people together through the arts...
That said, I seem to have neglected my more solitary art in the process. A songwriter never stops writing permanently. Maybe a long dry spell, but the songs are there, lying dormant. Fans have encouraged me to invest in my own music and make it known to the world, but I couldn't wrap my mind around so much work to serve myself.
Then, someone did it for me. Lis and Lon Williamson of Gatorbone Records swept in and invited me onto their label. This changed everything. Breathing life into those words reminded me that these songs exist for YOU, the listener. Once I get it out, my need is met. It is you, the audience, who then stands to gain from a possible connection with one of songs. I was humbled and encouraged by my time spent in the studio and I can't wait to share the songs with you all.
The album, maiden voyage, is sometimes abstract, sometimes narrative, sometimes soulful, but always autobiographical. For better or worse, each song is directly inspired by different people in my life. One track, "Elijah" is about a people's experience which wove indelible threads in my foundation as a person. "Into One" is spoken to a person with which many of us have had a dialogue. Others are fictional portrayals of peoples' lives which provoked me to write. There are love songs, too. All of it, I suppose, paints a portrait of me as a person.
I need $3000 to get the record on its feet. Check out my incentives and see what you can do. Thank you for your interest and faith in me! I look forward to connecting with you through song.
Risks and challenges
As with any, especially creative project, there are risks and challenges. I have a great crew working to help me accomplish my goal of releasing my debut solo album, Maiden Voyage. But their could be unforeseen obstacles. Perhaps it will take longer to get each song exactly the way we want it. We may be counting on a certain musician to add a fiddle or accordian track, and they could have an emergency that would keep them from keeping their recording date. Would we move ahead, and just lose the musical vision we had for that artist's contribution? No, probably not. We would work them into our schedule, and it could cause the record to be released later than we thought.
There could be problems with the actual physical production of the cd. It could be delivered with technical flaws, and we would have to send it back to fix the problem.
We are fully committed to this albums release, and I believe the biggest risk would be that it would be ready later than we hoped.
As far as our incentives go, it could be a challenge to schedule your house concert or party at a time that works well for us both. But as I said before, I am committed and determined to fulfill every promise, and we will find that perfect date for me to perform at your home or wherever you would like. I am very much looking forward to this aspect of rewarding and thanking my backers for their support.
The money raised will go toward the hard costs of making the CD, and paying my marvelous musicians and production crew. And if we exceed our goal, these dollars will go towards funding a tour to support the record, and for publicity and promotion.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
