This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, October 24 2018 2:55 PM UTC +00:00.
Hana Doki Kira 1 (HDK1) was successfully kickstarted and published in 2013-2014, and was an anthology of comics and illustrations celebrating the shojo genre among 26 artists across a spectrum of styles and interpretations. Hana Doki Kira 2 (HDK2) is the second anthology in the series organized by the Year 85 Group -- the same bunch of friends who love the shojo genre and enjoy creating art and books together!
In this second volume, we are continuing the tradition of exploring how the shojo genre has left a lasting impression on artists with many different styles and stories to tell, but with a focus on the “Doki Doki” moment of romantic love. Given the universality of love, HDK2 welcomes influence from the “Boys’ Love” and “Girls’ Love” subgenres of shojo. However as we recognize that gender is a spectrum, in HDK 2, we further extend our focus of romantic love to be one that is inclusive of LGBTQIA+ expressions and artists.
All our artists, including some returning faces from HDK1 and many new contributors for this volume, have come together to interpret and share their versions of this tense, elusive, and absolutely vital part of the classic shojo love story.
Our goal is to print the book and compensate our contributing artists for their hard work!
- Over 150 pages of illustrations and comics!
- 6”x10” perfect-bound book with a foil-embossed cover.
- A unified color palette centered around hot pastel pink !
- Showcases 26 artists both amateur and professional !
- A run of 1000 books distributed among artists and supporters!
Our goal is to be able to print and distribute our books as well as compensating our artists for their contributions, but if our Kickstarter surpasses it, we’ll be able to make the book and rewards even better for our supporters! We have a lot of ideas in mind for some awesome items for backers, like patches, coasters, and many more, but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.
The first push goal will be announced upon meeting our starting Kickstarter goal!
The incredibly talented artists of Hana Doki Kira 2 are much more than just shojo artists! Take a look at their amazing work on their social media! Please read further down to view their gorgeous samples of the work in Hana Doki Kira Volume 2.

Here are some peeks at pages of art in the book...
The base Kickstarter goal is to fund a limited softcover print run of a thousand books and the production of all the promotional rewards to go with it for example; posters, postcards, etc. We have also built in fair compensation for all artists for their contributions to this project.
Extra money will go back into the funding of additional push goals. Funds left over after all rewards are distributed and the Kickstarter has come to a close will be evenly split among the artists.
We can’t make this possible without you, so please tell your family, friends, squads and magical sidekicks to help us make our book a reality!
Risks and challenges
We will keep backers informed with regular updates every step along the way.
Each organizer of the Hana Doki Kira book is an artist in their own right and has produced comics, art, and merchandise in both professional and personal capacities. The members of the Year 85 Group are Enduro, HKezza, Elisa Lau & Annie Stoll. We successfully organized and fulfilled the first volume of Hana Doki Kira in 2013-2014, in addition to organizing and participating in many other crowdfunded books and projects since then.
We have already collected all the artwork for our second book. The book is print ready and we will be sending it to the printer as soon as funding is complete. Our next steps after funding will be getting proofs of the book/rewards, approving them, and then producing it and shipping it to you.
We are four friends with normal day-jobs putting this book together in our spare time--we’ve put a lot of effort into organizing and making our own contributions, but none of us have the funds to print a book at this scale without help. We will also be handling the production of the pledge rewards and carrying out the fulfillment of orders ourselves.
Printing the book and rewards may take up to 3-6 months after the Kickstarter funds are transferred to us. Once the books have arrived, we can start sending them to backers and artists.
We are coordinating with dozens of artists in several countries, and certain high-tier items may take more time to produce due to the customization and quality we ask of the product.
We feel that the strength of this project is in the artists, who have worked very hard on the art within the book. We are not looking to profit from the project, so all extra funds from the Kickstarter will be distributed back to the artists or put into additional rewards for backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
