The Story So Far...
In May 2013, I posted this short comic on Tumblr and it quickly became one of my most reblogged pieces of work.
It was crudely drawn in a single night but it seemed to catch on with people. I had read the story of how Set had tricked Osiris into trapping himself in a box and it made me laugh and I wanted more people to know.
However, when I came to continue reading the story, I found so much good content that I wanted to draw and it suddenly dawned on me - why wasn't I told about the Egyptian Gods sooner?
Why Make Pantheon?
If you want to learn about Egyptian mythology, you have two options; children's books which censor all the most interest bits or dry academic tomes which reference every contradicting version.
Pantheon exists because I want to read it - a simple but accurate version of the stories with all the humour, excitement and emotional beats they were originally supposed to have.
Pantheon focusses on "the most important" myth - the battle between Set and Horus for the throne of Egypt. However, no single version of this story exists and there are many additions and contradictions between the versions. Where necessary, I will use my artistic license to make sense of it all but I won't make anything up. This is a faithful adaptation in terms of story.
If I manage to fund this project to £12,000, the Divine Edition will be a colour edition and available to more people. Anything over the 100% will go towards printing more comics, promoting it at more conventions and possibly developing Pantheon as a series. Sequels would be based around other Mythologies.
Pantheon will be printed by Cambrian Printers. They're a wonderful company that I've worked with before and I am very confident they will get the job done to a satisfying degree.
Risks and challenges
Pantheon is my first graphic novel and I've never done a comic of this length before. Because of this, I cannot accurately say how long it'll take me to complete. Judging by how quickly I do a single page, I think I can get this finished in the summer, but I don't want to promise anything to my backers. 2014 is as accurate as I can be right now and I will be keeping all my backers informed of every development through emails and a private backers blog.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Think a standard Manga book, sort of like the original Scott Pilgrim black and white versions.
It will be printed on 200 80gsm Matt pages with a 300gsm Gloss cover. It'll be about 210.00 x 140 mm in size and be perfect bound.
The hard cover I haven't decided yet, but will be slightly bigger and have a thick card cover. Again - think of the Scott Pilgrim colour editions for that one.
Every physical copy of the book received through donating a pledge will have my signature in it.
