Risks and challenges
Securing completion funds for this documentary is going to be the most difficult challenge. For Blue Like Me: The Art of Siona Benjamin, all Stateside production will be done by the time we begin the final production trip to India. In India, we will face most of our risks. First, meeting all the influences in Siona's art while we are in India may be difficult because of everyone’s schedule. It will also be a challenge to transfer all proper equipment to India. The journalist visa is also going to be an obstacle. We are currently trying to obtain the visa since it is a long process. We must gain it by September in order to take our trip.
Our $20,000.00 goal for this Kickstarter campaign will underwrite final production costs. Post-production is going to need to access other funding in order to complete the film to our standards, which will be a challenge. We are currently pursuing efforts to help secure funds for post-production by:
1) We will be shifting our focus this summer from the Kickstarter campaign to researching and applying for grants from appropriate arts foundations. Grants are never a guarantee and can be difficult to obtain. If we are not selected for a grant we must shift our focus in order to gain funds to finish the film. Currently two proposals are in the works (one from an arts council in India, the second a Stateside foundation that only grants finishing funds for visual arts documentaries).
2) Our project has a verbal commitment from a well-known New Jersey State university for a grant (the size of this grant to be announced when the new fiscal year begins July 1st).
3) We are reaching out to corporate sponsors who we hope to support Siona’s art.
Another obstacle with this project after funding will be making sure our backers receive their rewards in a timely way, consistent with the dates listed in the rewards column to the right of the Kickstarter page--especially the link to the completed documentary and the DVD. We are not 100% sure to when the documentary is going to be completed because we may face some bumps in the road. If there are any setbacks with the film this may be late. If there is any obstacle that disrupts our timing and affects the delivery of your prize, we will notify our backers via our Kickstarter updates.
Again, thank you all for your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
