HELLO! THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!
I’m Tina Satter, Artistic Director of Half Straddle, a theater company that for 10 years has expanded artistic and social landscapes by putting female and/or queer and trans characters, stories, and paradigms onto stages and in theaters around the world in special shows that we're very proud to have made and shared.
I’m so thrilled to be working now on our new show that I'm directing which is called Is This A Room: Reality Winner Verbatim Transcription and is about a real-life yoga-teaching, gun-toting, Arabic-speaking young American woman named Reality.
Reality and her story are literally at the center of a vital conversation about patriotism, honor, access, and power in this gut-wrenching American moment.
All of us working on this show have to come to feel that it offers truly urgent and important information and questions—and that our artistic lens allows the story to move beyond the headlines into a larger, necessary discourse.
We are so grateful to get to share this show in its premiere at The Kitchen in New York CIty this January 2019.
And, we need your help to make it possible.
ABOUT THE SHOW
This is a true story, still unfolding.
In June 2017, a 25-year-old former Air Force linguist named Reality Winner (played by Emily Davis) arrives alone to her house, is surprised by armed FBI agents, interrogated, and then charged with leaking evidence of Russian interference in our voting system. She's in jail now.
Our show stages the verbatim FBI transcript of what happened at Reality's house that day.
WHY THIS SHOW NOW
Is This A Room: Reality Winner Verbatim Transcription has an at once extraordinary and then heartbreakingly normal young woman at its center—who makes a choice with huge personal consequences that extends directly into our urgent political discourse.
In this time of relentless news and political cycles that are more than just headlines but with affects that literally may change the fabric of our lives and futures in tangible ways, this was the show we had to make now.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Our fast development timeline is why we need outside support at this stage.
We worked very hard to create a plan with a compact rehearsal schedule and a truly low overall budget for a show like this with streamlined design to make it something we could pull off by January 2019—if we are able to get additional support to bring the show into the world.
Our Kitchen commission covers most of the production costs including costumes, set, and rehearsal space—but we need to raise money to pay for the time and labor of the inspiring actors and designers making this work possible.
The money raised by our Kickstarter campaign will be used as follows:
- Rehearsal space $1,000
- Rehearsal + show fees for the actors $8,000
- Set, Lighting, Costume, Sound designer fees $6,000
Anything you are able to give to this project will be put to immediate and great use towards supporting the time and labor of these artists.
THANK YOU TRULY FROM OUR DEEPEST HEARTS.
LOVE, Tina & Half Straddle
Risks and challenges
Half Straddle relies on support from generous patrons like you to continue to create and share original work. This campaign is a direct extension of that.
The biggest risk of this show in this moment is that we will not get the chance to tell this story and spotlight this individual—and all the urgent issues surrounding her story—in this moment.
As with all of our projects, this is a labor of love, and any love you can give to us will be taken in with open arms and very full hearts.
THANK YOU AGAIN for any support you can give to this show.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
