Halfbike 3 - Bridge the gap between man, machine and dance
Well, some say a Halfbike is a fun way to move around town. Or what you'll hop on for a joy ride at the park. Others see it as a wonderful workout tool to train balance, reflexes, endurance and persistence. Yet for most, a Halfbike is a fun choice to explore the world from a new perspective, urging them to go outside and be active.
As to us, well, here’s a bit of our view…
The truth is, there’s more than a single answer to what a Halfbike is and who it is for.
One thing’s for certain though. If you keep an open-mind, if you nurture your inner child’s curiosity and never miss a chance to explore new horizons, if you’re active and in need of a good full body workout, or simply love the outdoors and look for the remarkable in a ride across your city, you’re most probably a great Halfbiker undercover :)
We've been tinkering with the essence of riding a Halfbike for quite a while now. Ever since the very first prototypes, we knew that we were onto something. They were almost impossible to ride, yet there was this special feeling which kept us going. A feeling we pursued, a feeling we nurtured and improved. However, only after other people started sharing their experience on a large scale, we found the missing ingredient. Based on this feedback, we went back to the drawing board one more time.
We’re excited to say that the Halfbike is now complete and that the user experience has finally been perfected. So, now, it is as good as it was in our wildest dreams :)
Intuitive Control : We tweaked Halfbike’s geometry and proportions, making it more ergonomic and user friendly. The result is better maneuverability and greatly improved sense of control.
Gears: We added more gears and increased the gear range. This makes the Halfbike better suited to anything a city could throw at it. You can now ride comfortably on an even more diverse terrain. A new state-of-the-art hub by Sturmey Archer makes all this possible.
Brakes: The Halfbike can now stop on a dime and this is a fact! The new integrated drum brakes are pretty much maintenance free and the performance will stay consistent with time, and in all weather conditions.
Compact size: The Halfbike got lighter and more compact, and it is now easier to take it anywhere with you.
Foldable: We added a quick release system for even easier folding. Take it onboard public transit, put it in the trunk of the smallest car or fit it into places too tight for a normal bike.

Learning to ride a Halfbike takes time, practice and determination. Remember the first time you tried a bicycle or the first time you got on skis? Do you remember what it felt like the moment it all clicked? Yes, that's right! The Halfbike comes with a steep but rewarding learning curve. It has the potential to put you in a child’s shoes again and bring out those happy memories. Most people need only 10-15 minutes to get the basics. Once your muscle memory and balance kick in, it suddenly becomes intuitive. From then on, it starts getting fun and the progress is surprisingly fast.
Martin & Mihail are architects and true partners in crime who share a vision for a better world and truly believe less is more. They stay guided by their passion for the outdoors and core belief that we, humans, are born to move. So, when everything becomes too complicated, we need to push hard on that reset button and get our personal time offline.
Through the years and along with the Halfbike, our team grew steadily. We believe that hacking the well established order, with small but confident steps, can make our future brighter. We believe in local manufacturing - it is our way of keeping our business fair and sustainable. That’s why each Halfbike is handmade in our workshop in Europe. But there is more. We chose to work only with direct customers. This helps us grow together and the feedback from our clients keeps us up-to-date and on track. Kickstarter taught us an important lesson, one we always get back to. “Listen!”. We are devoted to keeping this direct communication and it truly means a lot to us. The good vibes flow both ways. The result is the best Halfbike possible, straight from our workshop to your home, without involving any middlemen and the complexity they bring. That simple.
Our mission is to inspire people to spend more time offline, back to nature, back to basics. We know the Halfbike can take you there. Are you ready for a new adventure?
The Halfbike project started, more or less, as an idea for a distinct and really fun way to traverse the city. Only after the first user feedback started to come back did we realize it was a lot more than that. Tons of client, athlete & medical success stories opened our eyes - people kept on finding many new and diverse applications of the Halfbike.
We never expected such massive growth of the Halfbike community and all the love they send our way. All the great moments, stories and experiences they shared made us see that there was still more to the Halfbike than we thought. Our sprawling worldwide community quickly became the project’s backbone - amazing people who made the Halfbike dream real. Thank you!

Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform and not an online shop. We're all here to support ideas and join forces to bring those ideas to life. Every backer makes a pledge and expects to receive a reward in return. Based on this, we order materials, components and get the wheel rolling to produce your Halfbike. This is why returns are not accepted. Thank you for both your understanding and support!
Risks and challenges
We've already completed the design, prototyping and test phase of the project. Better yet, we've already had two successful Kickstarter campaigns. So, we've got a really good idea what it takes to deliver on our promises. We're fully confident we will do it again this time!
Тhe majority of the components will be produced locally in our workshop thus allowing us greater flexibility and control over the whole process. Furthermore, this makes us less dependent on suppliers and subcontractors. Frames, handlebars and trucks along with the final assembly and packaging will be all done in our workshop. We already have a solid experience in terms of the manufacturing process, so we don't expect any major setbacks here.
The rest of the components are high end bicycle parts which we've meticulously selected. They come from several suppliers that we are already working with and all necessary arrangements are already made. So everyone is waiting for a green light. However, we are unable to predict the final order volume prior to the end of the campaign. In case of a dramatic increase of the order size they may need extra time to supply all components. We just can't plan everything ahead and working with a third party may result in unexpected delays. Fingers crossed that we’ve done our homework well :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
