From the start, Guy Fox has been a tight-knit band that has tried our hardest to serve our friends and fans and make sure everybody's having a great time. Sure, it’s a crazy world out there. And sure, we all suffer from the monotony of day to day life and what is routine. But when we play for you and see you dance and cheer, a hurricane-like swirl of energy forms that squashes all of life’s “bla” and truly lifts our spirits. For over two years we have seen our community grow and its been a true inspiration. We now want to call on you- our wonderful community of passionate, energetic peeps- to help continue our growth and devotion by helping us fund our 2013 Summer Tour and our efforts to reach a national audience.
Our Release show at The Independent on April 26 went better than we could have dreamed. It was truly a landmark for us to play and sell out such a prestigious venue. Since we have reached such great heights locally in San Francisco, we truly believe there is a greater audience out there just waiting to be "Guy Fox-ified." We want to take this party to new listeners and of course perform for all you fans who don't get to see us in the Bay Area.
On tour we will be promoting our new EP “The Wild." With these new recordings we worked to capture what lies at the core of planet Guy Fox – a smoldering energy of molten danceability and freshness. With our talented producer Jamie Riotto we chased new sounds and composed in-studio to capture a spontaneous, living energy. Tiny Telephone Studios has a devotion to unique and meaningful sounds and for us there was no question that this is the right environment to create. After four months of burrito- and coffee-fueled recording sessions, we have finished. And we think it sounds excellent! So it is time to hit the road and promote this sucker.
Our touring costs include...
• Van Rental – See now this is classic stuff... used van crammed with music gear, empty coffee cups, and pounds of trail mix. Photographs of us crowded around our great vessel, the vast expanse of America's heartland in the background. To us the van represents freedom. It is our Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria all wrapped up into one. This will cost us roughly $3,000.
• Travel Expenses – This really consists of gas and food. Got to fuel the van and of course ourselves as we play night after night. So you guys know, we will be as they say "roughing it." We are loving the idea of staying with friends in different cities and saving money this way.
• Merch – We are investing in T-Shirts and many copies of "The Wild." This is a great way for us to make a little money here and there along our many stops. The EP Art, tour poster, and T-shirts were all designed by local artist Mike Armenta. We feel that he has captured the spirit of the music and translated this into visual form.
• PR – In order to effectively engage new listeners we need the help of PR experts. They will help us get press for the shows and make sure the tour is a success (we don’t want to play to empty ballrooms – although that is a somewhat poetic image).
On the right hand column you will see the many ways we vow to thank you for your contributions. Don’t forget we only get the funds if we reach our overall goal, so lets wrastle this crazy cow till its milk has run dry (mixed metaphors are an important part of any kickstarter campaign). You guys are the best! Thanks for your continued support, love, and devotion, and please spread the word to any and all that might be interested. Love, all the dudes of GUY FOX!
Risks and challenges
The music industry is a fairly gruesome one that doesn't necessarily work out for the artists involved. Our quest to take things up a level will be incredibly challenging- getting the album in the right people's hands and making sure they actually listen to it, securing good transportation so we can actually meet our commitments on the road, avoiding mental and physical burn-out, along with everything else. We thank you for helping us achieve our dream with our first tour across the country.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
