Photographer and journalist Gustavo Bravo has been photographing the remote town of Cabezas del Villar for five years, fascinated by its authenticity, its people and its disconnection with the current globalized world.
Cabezas del Villar is a photographic essay on the past and the present that immortalizes the eternal dichotomy between human nature itself and its adaptation to the environment it inhabits, as well as the impact it exerts on land, water, sky and animals.
Located on a remote county road between the spanish cities of Ávila and Salamanca, Cabezas del Villar is the perfect example of an isolated corner in time and space, where its few inhabitants, increasingly scarce, have lost their train to the future long time ago and they limit themselves to remembering better times while living day by day.
With courage, strength and resignation, those who still work, work in a field increasingly dry, less productive and less profitable, waiting for clouds that never arrive, helps that never prosper and promises that are never fulfilled.
And in spite of everything, the inhabitants of Cabezas still listen to the wind, read the humidity in the stones, connect in body and soul with their animals and look at the sky as the human being has always done.
One village, two books
The photo project has culminated in two books:

The first book, 'Portraits and Landscapes of Cabezas', collects the best posed portraits and landscape photographs recorded in these five years, during long walks and photo shoots in all corners, places and festivities of the town.
This little book is a tribute to all the people of the town, for their integrity, their courage and their honest way of living the life that has touched them.
