About this project
Hello kickstarter lovers!
My name is Guilherme and i'm really excited about bringing this project to Kickstarter. I, alongside my friend Rafael, would like to introduce you to our newest project, a short length animation (about 9 minutes long) called The Ballad of the Automatons. We both study Animation in UFMG (one of the biggest universities in Brazil) and we already work with illustration. However, this is going to be our first big step into the animation process and we count with your help to bring our ideas to life.
We already went through most of the pre-production (idealizing the story, building the script, creating the characters, finishing the animatic, etc...). Now, its time for the production and here is where we gonna need the help of the backers: proper equipment for digital animation, hire another illustrators and animators to finish everything in time, spread our work into other medias and animation contests and festivals. There's even the possibility of looking at this short length as a potential pilot for an animated series.
If you help by pledging $10 or more, you'll get to know more about the production of an animation, as we will keep you informed of every decision we make and every new content we create. You'll get exclusive access to every new scene, pencil test, clean-up, background, etc. We also want to share our first sketches and concepts. The whole idea is to make a weekly journal and always keep in touch with the backers opinions.
There are a lot of other rewards prepared for those willing to pay from $5 to $5,000.
The Ballad of the Automatons is a tale of adventure inspired by many things of our popular culture, such as the western spaghetti genre mixed with a post-apocalyptic scenario.
In a distant future, nothing is the same: humanity apparently vanished and many old robots and machines took over the land, living now in cities built over the ruins of the previous civilization. We start by following an oil delivery to the prison-city of Cagewell, in the middle of the desert. Soon we meet our protagonist, Dummy, who lives in Cagewell as a prisoner, under the orders of the giant guard known as Granbull. Dummy's routine is basically the same: unload the oil barrels to supply the saloon and houses of the city. After accidentally breaking his arm, our protagonist discover one human (Abel) living inside an old abandoned house, who is forced to work fixing machines and robot parts. They quickly develop a friendship, finding themselves in the same situation. When some other prisoner manages to escape Cagewell, the same idea comes to Dummy's mind as soon as he finds the tool that could set him and Abel free.
The $13,000 amount would serve for the following purposes:
- Hire illustrators and animators to help us finish everything in time
- Buy appropriate equipment for digital animation (digital drawing tablets, light tables, digital camera, computers prepared for video edition)
- Prepare all of the rewards (including the ones being shipped internationally)
- Create great music inspired by all the western classics.
- Spread the film by making a solid divulgation into other medias and animation festivals.
