About this project

Well-Read Black Girl (WRBG) is a Brooklyn-based book club and online community that celebrates the uniqueness of Black literature & sisterhood. Our mission is to increase the visibility of Black women writers and initiate meaningful conversation with readers. I'm Glory Edim, founder of WRBG. Our digital book club has over 20,000 members on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook

Since launching in 2015, the book club has met with several award-winning authors including:

Naomi Jackson, The Star Side of Bird Hill

Nicole Dennis-Benn, Here Comes The Sun

Margo Jefferson, Negroland

Angela Flournoy, The Turner House

Yaa Gyasi, Homegoing

Nicole Blades, The Thunder Beneath Us

WRBG recognizes the literary accomplishments and activism of Black women authors. Writers like Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, and Maya Angelou have made inroads for future generations of authors and readers. Inspired by their commitment, the WRBG Writers' Conference and Festival will address the dire need to create empowering communal spaces for Black women in literature. We're asking you to help us reach our goal in by purchasing tickets to the day-long writer's conference and festival on September 9, 2017.

  • Pay for the venue and event production costs
  • Reward production and shipping
  • Hire instructors for the conference
  • Invite special literary guests
  • Provide honorariums for speakers
  • Ensure the event is low-cost and accessible to the community
