Our fundamental philosophy at Guerilla Galleries is “do it ourselves, do it better and the art always comes first”. We started our venture with a very simple idea: SHOW ART. It became much more than that when we started hearing from the artists. As nice as praise is from people who come to an exhibit, it’s far more beneficial to hear from the participants who are hanging on the walls ... and what we were hearing is that we were doing something right. The artists we’ve been lucky to work with, from students to professionals, have all without exception thanked us for putting them first.
Now with theGUGAZINE we’re looking to broadcast the same ideals as brick and mortar gallery owners to the pages of a publication designed to reach a wider audience and to showcase a greater amount of artists. We’re confident that the same vision we possess when creating a show will translate to the curation of a quarterly journal.
"Il Moderna Figura", Fall 2010
theGUGAZINE is a Northeast-centric publication that focuses exclusively on particular mediums and genres of art; the ones that we find we can speak to with the most care and express intelligently. Our intention is to create a gallery walk, not a studio visit. We want our readers to feel as if they are standing in front of a work of art. And to this point what makes the Gugazine different is that you may not be looking at an established artist but an emerging artist given the chance to have their work looked at in this manner.
The magazine will break down into seven feature exposes that will each spotlight an artist working in that particular medium or genre. Each expose will be covered and written about by either us or a “guest curator” who can showcase the talent of a particular artist being featured.
The complete layout of theGUGAZINE is as follows:
