We created a simple 3d printable plastic case with an opening for the optical heart sensor and two conductive leads so that the board makes contact with the skin. We topped it off with a simple black rubber band that fits all wrist sizes.
This gives you optimal usage and flexibility with the MetaHealth board and it works right out of the box as a medical/health/fitness band!

WHAT IS METAHEALTH?
MetaHealth is a new generation of biometric monitoring technology developed by MbientLab.
This small Bluetooth Low Energy Platform is specially designed for Wearable, Medical, Environmental, Educational, Health, and Fitness applications. Use it for research, product development, prototyping, education, learning in the classroom, or to simply make.
The MetaHealth board comes with an easy to use SDK so you can program it wirelessly using your Smartphone.
Built on top of our proven and successful MetaWear platform, MetaHealth is the first board of its kind, offering an optical heart rate sensor, lead based galvanic skin response sensor, AND 6 axis motion sensors in one extremely small device.

Galvanic skin response (GSR), or skin conductance, is a measure of the changes in the skin’s conductivity due to a stimulus, whether it is a picture, smell, sound, touch, etc. Sweat glands are controlled by the sympathetic nervous system which release small amounts of sweat when a stimulus is sensed. This is how the GSR sensor on the MetaHealth board can relate psycho-activity to sweat gland activity.
Reflective photoplethysmography (PPG) is a measure of your heart rate and can be translated to BPM (beats per minute) and HRV (heart rate variability). The PPG sensor on the MetaHealth board is a fully integrated optoelectronic sensor, specially designed and optimized for heart rate and pulse sensing. It features three LEDs – green (535 nm) - and a large area photodiode (PD) to maximize signal level. The device design includes a light barrier to minimize internal crosstalk thus enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio.
The Motion sensors on the MetaHealth board are low power, low noise 16-bit inertial measurement sensors for highly accurate, real-time motion data. In full operation mode, with both the accelerometer and gyroscope enabled, the current consumption is typically 950 μA. The accelerometer works in 2G, 4G, 8G and 16G modes. The gyroscope works at up to 2000 degrees per second.
The MetaHealth platform comes with on-board flash memory (for 15,000 sensor data entries) so you can log sensor data and download it to your phone later.
Get up to several months of battery life on a single CR2032 coin cell (typical use cases last 2 weeks on a single battery).

MetaHealth is fully compatible with our existing MetaWear SDKs. We’ve even updated our APIs and firmware with additional functionalities, making it easier than ever to make the MetaHealth do what you want.
MetaHealth is updated and programmed wirelessly by any Bluetooth Smart device (that includes laptops, tablets, phones...).
Our open-source mobile SDK exposes all the sensors and peripherals in an intuitive way, so your App can easily:

We have been creating wearable sensors for a while now and after we delivered the original MetaWear platform to our Kickstarter backers, the feedback has been overwhelming! With your support, we’ve now expanded our MetaWear platform to a whole family of hardware to fit different needs.

Now that we’ve finished prototyping and testing, we’re are back on Kickstarter to offer you the latest and greatest. That means the MetaHealth is production ready right now and you will get it just three months after the campaign ends.

Risks and challenges
From the company that brought you MetaWear, MetaSensors, and MetaWear C. Our previous campaigns were not only successfully funded but they were delivered on time or early every time!
There are always significant challenges in manufacturing and delivering any hardware product at scale. Fortunately, we've have been working hard and have established relationships with manufacturing partners in the US that will help us bring MetaHealth to your doorstep.
Of course, there are still risks associated with producing the MetaHealth board. Unexpected changes in component lead times, availability, and cost are examples of factors outside our direct control that could affect our delivery timeline, but we are working hard to mitigate those risks and plan to be transparent throughout the delivery process.
There are additional risks involved with the physical delivery of your reward. There are a number of unforeseen circumstances that can cause problems during the actual physical shipping of the MetaHealth boards. Since unforeseen circumstances can sometimes impact the shipping world, we will also make sure to have methods/resources in place to overcome any difficulties.
