Update #49

The Last Shipments are Away!

Early this afternoon, FedEx will swing by our warehouse to pick up the very last Kickstarter reward packages, so everyone who has not yet gotten their rewards should get theirs some time next week (depending on the distance you live from St. Louis, MO).

Unfortunately, it appears that FedEx is no longer sending out tracking number emails. I have spent quite a bit of time on the phone trying to figure out why, but no one seems to know. I do not currently have access to tracking numbers for these packages, but I *will* be getting a spreadsheet of those at some point. In any case, if your package does not arrive by the end of next week, let me know and I will phone FedEx and make sure that nothing went wrong.

Additionally, some people have pointed out that a few stores have the new products in stock as of today even though some backers have not yet gotten their rewards. This is an unfortunate result of logistical necessity and poor estimating on our part. Here's what happened:

We currently rent a small warehouse space, which is quickly getting too small for our needs. As a result, when we get a big print run in, we barely have enough space to unload the cargo container, and definitely not enough room to stage up a bunch of parcels for pick-up by FedEx. In order to generate the space, we have to ship out our large distributor orders first, which frees up enough room for us to work. When doing so, we gave distributors a street date (the date at which the games can go on sale in stores) of the 15th, intending that all Kickstarter rewards would be shipped well before this date. Unfortunately, even our past Kickstarter shipping experience did not prepare us for how time consuming shipping all of the rewards for this project would be. Due to the myriad a la carte items and different reward levels, packing and shipping has taken about twice as long as we anticipated, thus pushing the ship date for the final rewards up to the street date that stores have been given.

We apologize for this situation, and should be able to avoid it in the future. We now have a much better idea of how long packing ~2200 complicated orders takes, and will hopefully be able to get a little more storage space in the near future. Hopefully any of you at the end of the alphabet affected by this situation can forgive us, and at least enjoy all of the stretch rewards and getting the games a month or two earlier than planned.

Over the weekend, we're going to pack and ship all of the orders that have been placed on our website in the past several weeks. Next week we will hopefully be caught up in time to make a big announcement and head to PAX East.

Thanks again to all of you for your continued support, and keep on saving the Multiverse!

~Paul

The difference in card size doesn't bother me too much as the decks aren't mixed. It does make me wonder if this will be a problem with GSF though. I don't know a great deal about the mechanics involved but if GSF is indeed a deck builder then there's going to be trouble down the line if >G are using the same manufacturer.

I brought in my complete set of SOTM into my local game store and ended up playing 10 games in a row people just kept wanting to play with new stuff or promo hero's we had a blast! at one point someone had quite possibly the best house rule ever "you must say the flavor text of the card you play or you take one damage" made the game even more awesome when haka defeated the villain with "hake hake ko whata!"

as a side note after showing this game off and playing like this with random people 3 guys bought the game for the shop right there :D

Let me start off by saying I have been with sentinels of the multi-verse since the beginning.
How difficult is it to make the expansion cards the same size as the original cards? It seems like every expansion has different size cards. I'm kind of bummed about this. And no I don't use sleeves.

I have to say I'm honestly excited that the game came out much earlier than expected! I can't wait to play!

I have to also say that the thing about Kickstarter, is often projects are dealing with unknown variables so things may not turn out perfectly in the end. They had to guess how much space they'd need for all their boxes, and then knew they'd have to ship out to distributors just to have the space they needed. Its logical. To ship to distributors, they had to make a guess at a street date date that should allow enough time to ship to all their backers first. They tried. It didn't quite work out. But they were pretty close. Its not like you're waiting an extra month. Its probably a matter of a week or so (domestically anyway.) In a month none of this will matter. Is it really that important to be the first kid on the block with it?

If you ordered the game online from a retails, you'd STILL be waiting on shipping to get it, and you wouldn't be getting the extras, nor would you have been supporting the initial project being made. If you walk in a store and buy it, you're getting it now, but again without extras. Its a choice you make to back something. You know it'll hit stores. But its just uncertain when.

Its pretty obvious they worked very hard to get things out as quickly as possible, but it just didn't quite work out. It happens. This even happens with regular big game companies.

As we mentioned while the Kickstarter is still running, the MSRP of Shattered Timelines is $19.95 plus $10 shipping. In addition, you get $17.80 in mini-expansions, $2.95 in oversized villain cards, exclusive promo cards and exclusive art prints free of charge with your rewards, which shipped on Friday (in your case) and will arrive next week.

    18. Img_0217.small

Creator Shawn George on March 16, 2013

Jason, correct me if I'm wrong, but I never saw any promise in the original Kickstarter campaign claiming that every backer would get their rewards before any copies of Shattered Timelines were sold in stores. The closest thing I could find to a "promise" of that was in update #46, shortly before GTG received the freight shipment. That "promise" was made well after all pledges were made and collected, so you have no right to be upset for not getting something that you thought that you were paying for.

As far as the "fanboy" accusation, that's just plain stupid. I'm an "S" and I haven't gotten my shipment yet. Am I annoyed? Slightly. But am I going to throw a hissy fit because somebody else might have been able to walk into a store yesterday and buy a copy of the game without the free stretch rewards? No, I'm not that petty and immature. I defend GTG, not because I'm a fanboy, but because I'm a reasonable human being that recognizes the fact that they've made their best possible effort to try to make everyone happy. Do I think that they made mistakes? Yes. Clearly they didn't have the warehouse space or manpower to get everything shipped out as timely as we would have liked. But we're still talking just under 2 weeks for 3 guys to get over 2100 orders out the door. That's pretty darn good.

Nicholas: Retail for Shattered Timelines is $20. It's the exact same as the last two expansions. If a particular retailer wants to sell it for $15, that's their choice. If you had done your research before you backed this Kickstarter, you would know that. We were charged $20 (retail price) plus $10 shipping (for domestic backers) to cover the shipping cost of not only the game, but the massive number of stretch rewards that we got as well. If that's not good enough for you, that's nobody's fault but your own.

My only concern is the lack of the tracking numbers. Fed Ex is notorious for leaving all packages for our building on a randomly selected floor. My stuff could have been sitting there all week for all I know. Not Paul's fault, of course. Just w/o tracking info I don't know when I have to start trudging through the entire building in search of my staff. Grr argh!

    22. Missing_small

Creator Jason (the original, now decaffeinated) on March 16, 2013

You know, this happens every time there is a promise about backers getting games before the stores. Someone wants to hold a company to what they promised and a bunch of fanboys jump all over them. Yes, I said fanboys because you are clearly not objective enough to look at the fact that backers were promised copies first and some did not get them.

I got lucky and my copy arrived before it hit the stores. The reality is, I would have been upset if I walked into game night without my backer copy and someone who didn't back squat already had theirs.

The promise was broken. You can cry that it's not fair to hold a small company, run by three dedicated gamers, accountable to their word, but don't expect me to blow it off. It's even more important for a small publisher to keep their word and have good press, in my opinion.

I have a very good history with >G so am not "butt hurt" over this, but that is because they have delivered in the past. This looks to be a totally honest mistake where they were caught between a rock and a hard place. I'll give them a break. However, If they keep making promises and not keeping them, then I will eventually take my business elsewhere even if each excuse is better than the last. .

The lesson here is really to under promise and over deliver (like they did with getting the game out earlier than expected).

    23. Square_nick_icon.small

Creator Nicholas Baker on March 15, 2013

These guys deserve praise for over delivering on their initial dates with the quality of the product they wanted backing on. Last time I checked, it's nowhere near May 2013, yet the majority of their backers have their promised rewards for funding.

If the worst mistake they made was underestimating the time individual packages would get shipped out, I'll take that mistake every single time. This wasn't done on purpose, where that has happened in other non-related KS project. Feel free to get mad at that, but an honest mistake that can be learned from is fine with me.

I would not hesitate to back another project that I was interested in seeing from Greater Than Games. I've backed quite a few Tabletop games, and none of them have come close to delivering like these guys did this time.

Creator Vinnie Perry on March 15, 2013

I don't know why some people are getting butthurt about the whole "stores getting them before we do" thing. In case they hadn't noticed, Kickstarter is NOT here to make you your own personalized goodies. We are here to back people's great ideas, whether we get anything out if it or not. This is not some special club that lets you get games before the masses. Just because that DOES happen, doesn't mean we are owed anything by the people who set things up on this website. For instance, I recently backed a dance project out of the goodness of my own heart. I don't need praise for it, and I'm not looking for it. I don't get anything because I didn't select a reward level. I did it to give a small push to someone who needs it, financially. Anyway, don't think you have some kind of entitlement, because we don't deserve to feel "more special" than anyone else. Luckily, people that make projects here appreciate our help, and they give some sort of special thanks to the backers that normal people wouldn't get. This may be in the form of an exclusive character card, like what we have received several of. So don't act like we're getting absolutely nothing special out of all of this. Just because timing was an issue, that is NOT a reason to blacklist these guys. They have been working solid to make sure every backer is getting their stuff delivered. (Notice, you don't even have to GO anywhere to get your game. It's coming to YOUR doorstep! With all of the Thanksgiving Fixin's!) My point is, don't hate because of a nasty situation. (For the record, I backed another project that is running 2 months late, and I'm still grateful about all of the extra stuff I'm getting when the project comes to fruition!)

I do not just throw my money at anything that moves and is flashy. If you want a repeat BACKER not customer then provide the KS basics. Also, the project and its stretch rewards are all decided by the creator, no argument there ( not sure where that came from to begin with).

Thanks for the update Paul, and congratulations on being 2 months ahead of your estimated shipping date! Look forward to receiving my copy.

The thing that annoys me most in Kickstarters is the sense of entitlement some backers seem to have, whether its dictating what stretch goals should be offered, demanding "exclusives" or grumbling about someone getting their copy first.

To paraphrase the comment below mine "Sorry" and "We will do better next time" is totally fine with me and I will definitely be checking out and most likely supporting your next KS project, whatever that may be.

    31. Fb_profile_picture.small

Creator Joah on March 15, 2013

Thats a big mistake to make for KS. People dont mind projects being months late as long as they have theirs before non supporters. I have mine so I am cool, but I wont back anyone who lets a product get to market before me. I have quit backing two companies that have made that error, and I know i am not the only one. We the backers are taking a gamble on these projects, we are spending our money before seeing, hearing, or playing the game in person. The ONE major thing we should get is to have it in hand before some joe blow who walks into his game store some random Friday. If you ask me a "sorry" and "we will do better next time" does not cut it(especially since you have admitted there is not a next time for SotM on KS. Which means now you have assumed we are supporting, blindly again, your next project on KS, what ever that may be)
