About this project
Welcome to the final Sentinels of the Multiverse Card Game Kickstarter! If you're not familiar with Sentinels of the Multiverse, check out the game and its website! The Multiverse began five years ago, and now we're back on Kickstarter to go out with a bang!
The heroes of Earth and beyond have fought against the effects of an unknown cosmic power for a long time, and each time they managed to prevail. However, other realities and timelines have not been so fortunate. The goal of this cosmic entity's encroachment upon the Multiverse has been the collapse of all realities and timelines into a singularity which will self-implode, leaving naught but OblivAeon, the true heir to nothingness.
OblivAeon itself has manifested on Earth in this timeline to put an end to the pitiful resistance. If it succeeds, everything will be destroyed. However, if the heroes are able to stop OblivAeon, the cracks which run through all realities will be repaired as the cosmic power that created them is destroyed, effectively cutting the timelines and realities off from each other.
One way or another, the Multiverse ends here.
Besides the key hints in each chapter told by the core game and every expansion to Sentinels of the Multiverse, there has been a lot of lead-up to this cosmic event. The Sentinels community discovered clues hidden throughout our products and website, and those clues led to some very interesting information, ultimately revealing the end of the Multiverse: OblivAeon!
Behold! Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon!
Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon is the final expansion to the Sentinels of the Multiverse line of games, and what an expansion it will be! The game will contain:
- Five familiar heroes (more on them below in the "Characters" section) who are coming to this last defense of the Multiverse!
- A "Mission" deck full of quests the heroes embark on to gain allies and tools to aid them in the conflict!
- Several villain decks that work together in different ways to make up the OblivAeon scenario, including decks for Scions, Aeon Men, and OblivAeon as well!
- Two environment decks and a comic book! Unlocked from Stretch Goals by YOU on DAY ONE!!
These five new heroes have everything to lose - everyone does when facing OblivAeon. Though their origins make them at odds with the other heroes, these five characters all stand stalwart against the cosmic threat, willing to set aside differences, previous conflicts, and villainous plots in order to save the Multiverse itself!
Ivan Grigori Ramonat is more commonly known as the villainous mad scientist Baron Blade. He has faced the many heroes of the Multiverse in countless conflicts, each time with a new doomsday plot that is as dangerous to the Baron as those around him.
However, with OblivAeon's assault on this reality, the mad Baron must put aside his long-standing enmity with the heroes, especially the Parsons family.
Baron Blade has learned much from his conflicts with the heroes, and his inventions have never been better! As Luminary, he stands alongside many powerful heroes and shows them the true might of his brilliance!
As The Harpy, Lillian Corvus is a true hero, though she is haunted by her not-so-heroic past.
Akash’Bhuta goes dormant for decades between attacks on humanity, needing to regrow and regain power after defeat by a Virtuoso of the Void.
However, with her planet and all reality at stake, she has reformed with what power she has recovered so far as Akash'Thriya and joins the fight against OblivAeon.
In her advanced age, Maria Helena de Falcón has shed most of the names and all of the crew she acquired as she sailed the timelines. Time is a fickle sea - it gave her much, but when it came time to take, she barely survived the temporal Black Spot.
La Comodora has sailed to the end of time and seen the lack of a future beyond OblivAeon. She returns to this time which vexed her younger self so thoroughly. She wears a time-locked outfit that prevents time from taking more from her than it already has. Hopefully, she can use her knowledge of the timelines and her technology from times and places beyond the scope of this reality to combat this ultimate destroyer of all.
When Tarogath - the would-be decimator of planet Earth - was reclaimed by the Terminarch Jansa Vi Dero, he wept. He knew that the destruction of Earth was now unavoidable. All of his magical power and Endling technology could not prevent the future.
What he did not know was that the planet he tried to save was to be a nexus of all reality. Jansa observed the ripples in spacetime and read the ending of all. She could not interfere - that was not her way. But Tarogath had already proved a willingness to bend the ways of the Endlings.
Now, Tarogath has returned to Earth with Jansa’s blessing. Lifeline joins his formidable command of mystical energy and ley-lines with power from the Enclave of the Endlings in order to oppose OblivAeon and prevent the destruction of all that is.
And each of these heroes also have hero variants! Learn more in the Stretch Goal section!
The Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon conflict will take place across two battle zones, each in a different environment. When fighting OblivAeon, the heroes will have to move between battle zones, complete Missions to gain allies and grow in power, fight terrible Scions and survive, and work to take down OblivAeon's impenetrable shield before ultimately taking the fight right to OblivAeon. Are you up to the challenge?
We posted an update full of OblivAeon gameplay information a week and a half into the campaign. Check it out!
When we launched the Sentinels of the Multiverse core game at Gen Con 2011, we had a few hundred copies of a promo card in the form of a hero character card variant for our flagship hero Legacy: his daughter, America's Newest Legacy. With that, we started our now long-standing tradition of releasing story-based hero variant cards that told more of a character's story with alternate innate powers, incapacitated abilities, and art that reflects those stories.
Very few people have a copy of that coveted America's Newest Legacy card. Even though promo variant cards we've made since then have been more available, the majority of Sentinels fans are missing most if not all of the hero variants.
That is why we're releasing the Complete Hero Variant Collection! This pack of cards includes EVERY hero variant card we've ever made, as well as the new ones released as part of this campaign. To set these cards apart from their original print runs, Adam Rebottaro (artist for all things Sentinels Comics) is doing ALL NEW ART for every single card! Check out how great America's Newest Legacy and Rook City Wraith look!
The Complete Hero Variant Collection contains over sixty variant hero characters cards, including all of the awesome variant cards unlocked during this campaign! However, as we unlock more and more Stretch Goals, we will be adding alternate art versions of those cards to this pack as well! Keep watching here to see that number go up!
With the reissue of all of the hero variants, a product that has been requested by many Sentinels fans is a collection of FOIL hero cards! Well, as 2016 is the 5th year of Greater Than Games and Gen Con 2016 will be the 5th anniversary of the launch of Sentinels of the Multiverse, we decided to make something awesome:
The 5th Anniversary Foil Hero Collection is a box full of over one hundred hero character cards, all in foil and with new art! It will have not just the hero variants, but all of the hero character cards, including those from the core game and each expansion! However, we want to make this a special thing for just this year, so we're only going to make enough to cover this Kickstarter plus a few hundred extras to sell at Gen Con and to retailers. After 2016, these will not be available for purchase from Greater Than Games. If we have any left over, we will use them for charity events or other special things.
Additionally, since the focus of this product is our 5th Anniversary, we are going to accelerate the production process for this box in order to have it for sale at Gen Con 2016. In fact, Adam is already busy at work on all of the arts for this! As a result, if you order the 5th Anniversary Foil Hero Collection as part of this Kickstarter, we WILL ship it to you BEFORE we leave for Gen Con. We have been talking to our printer for a while to make sure they know we have to get these post-haste, and we are confident that we will have all of these in the mail well before we leave for Gen Con 2016. Anything else you back will still be shipped at the same time as the rest of your rewards, but the 5th Anniversary Foil Hero Collection will ship this July.
We've made a lot of Sentinels of the Multiverse products. Between the core game, the expansions, and mini-expansions and more... well, it's a LOT of cards. We have received a few comments about how many boxes people are carrying around for this game, and just how heavy those boxes are. Believe me, we hear you. We can't do anything about the weight, but we can certainly make the carrying process a bit more elegant.
Introducing, the Sentinels of the Multiverse Ultimate Collector's Case! Decorated with beautiful art and elegant design, the interior of the case features trays in the top for tokens, rulebooks, and more, and drawers for oversized cards, hero character cards and variants, villain decks, hero decks, and environment decks. The Ultimate Collector's Case can hold ALL of the Multiverse!
As a result of unlocking all of the Stretch Goals in this campaign, the Ultimate Collector's Case also includes additional tokens for damage types and nemesis identification, a complete chart of hero, villain, and environment complexity/difficulty, four foam blocks, a "Completionist Guise" variant card, and features spot-UV and spot-foil printing on the outside of the box.
As part of the lead up to this event, Adam crafted a beautiful piece of art featuring all of the heroes and villains from the Multiverse with OblivAeon as the centerpiece. We're pleased to be able to make this art available as an 18" by 24" canvas print.
All canvas prints will be signed by Adam Rebottaro and are only available at the upper Pledge Levels.
We have two Add-Ons in this campaign:
- $1 set of three art prints
- $49 Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection
The art prints are three prints of images from cards in Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon.
The Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection is a set of every villain character featuring gorgeous foil art! This includes every villain from the base game and each expansion, including mini-expansions, variants, Vengeance, Villains of the Multiverse, and OblivAeon! The foil oversized cards come in a sweet case with magnetic closures. Additionally, the case features spot-UV and spot-Foil printing.
The art prints and the Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection will ship at the same time as Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon, so expect them early next year.
Just go to "manage my pledge" and add $1 to your pledge for the art prints, $49 for the Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection, or $50 for both. You don't have to send us a message about it or anything - we'll follow up with you via BackerKit! (Here's our update about how we're using BackerKit with this campaign.)
Note: EVERY pledge level gets the benefit of hearing Christopher Badell (designer of Sentinels of the Multiverse) read your name in a giant list of names from the first pledge level. Join the campaign! Become a Sentinel! Save the Multiverse!
On day one, we soared past our entire first batch of Stretch Goals! Since then, all of our stretch goals have been unlocked! Well done, Sentinels!
- In the day one update, we revealed a TON of the stretch goals that you'd unlocked in record time!
- In the second update, we revealed a lot more heroes and hero variants! Additionally, we talked about the video game and the Ultimate Collector's Case!
- In the fourth update, we introduced the variants for all four members of Void Guard!
- And in update #8, you unlocked variants for Ra and the Freedom Five!
We're going to try something here that is unusual for us at Greater Than Games, and we hope you'll like it. We are now shipping in great enough volume that we think we can manage to pay for free shipping for backers in the US and Canada. That's right, Greater Than Games is offering free shipping!
Unfortunately, we can't offer the same outside the US and Canada, because it is simply too expensive. However, any EU orders will be "EU Friendly", in that they will not incur VAT or customs fees on delivery.
This means that the shipping charges for this campaign are as follows:
- US: $0
- Canada: $0
- EU: $35
- Other: $50
We know that international shipping is annoyingly expensive; believe us, we are just as annoyed as you are! However, to help offset the shipping costs a bit, we have a work-around. For those of you living outside of the US and Canada, if you have a bunch of friends who want to support this project, just make one group pledge for as many games as you’d like, and you'll all receive every stretch goal! However, please send us a PM first letting us know what you are doing so that we can watch for it and help you out.
Risks and challenges
Previously, we announced that we were moving away from Kickstarter for Sentinels of the Multiverse products. However, as we worked on developing OblivAeon a few things occurred to us. First, a preorder works best when it focuses on one or two flagship games, but we wanted to include a number of products that have been long-promised and long-anticipated, and we didn't want them to get lost in the shuffle in a preorder. Second, we had some technical difficulties with recent preorders on our website that resulted in a lot more work for us on the shipping end and a few international shipping problems; using Kickstarter helps us neatly avoid these issues. Finally, Kickstarter and the Kickstarter Community - including all of you - were instrumental in the success of the Sentinels of the Multiverse. Returning to this platform for the end of the Multiverse seems highly appropriate.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
