About

Welcome to HUSH.

Hush draws its inspiration from fears, particularly those we have all experienced in some way or another when we were children. This is the story of Ashlyn, as she finds herself in an orphanage that time forgot, surrounded by blood freezing phobias that will try to absorb her into oblivion. Your goal is to help Ashlyn face these fears, and then use them to your advantage in order to escape from this nightmarish place. During this journey you’ll find yourself roaming through all sorts of environments capable of bringing out your innermost phobias. You’ll also be getting help from the inhabitants of this establishment, simply called The Forgotten. These little figures will tell you all about the suffering they've been through as victims of The Fears, while giving you hints on what awaits you.

DRM-Free, and available on PC/Mac/Linux and PS4,XBox One, Wii U.

We intend to deliver you a fun, polished experience through the portrayal of a compelling story with an intricate plot.

As such, Hush is an action-adventure game focused on its story and characters. We designed the gameplay in a way that players, both casual and hardcore, can easily relate to, and the levels that highlight combat, puzzle-solving and exploration.

The player will face several obstacles as they progress through the levels. These obstacles will take the form of monsters, puzzles and spatial hazards. Each monster will have different attacks and motion patterns, behaving accordingly to their profile and the specific chapter they belong to. Each chapter will end with a confrontation against a final boss –a representation of the fear said chapter is based on.

So we have a combat system that is fast, broad and intuitive, challenging puzzles and several places for you to explore… so expect to spend plenty of time unveiling secrets.


 
In the beginning, Ashlyn only has her best friend GoGo, which she uses to smack enemies around. That’s what friends are for right? But during her quest she will find other toys that will help her overcome the enemies standing in her way.

The combat style will range from a straight Hack-and-Slash to more strategic combat approaches; some weapons work at close range while others enable Ashlyn to safely attack from a distance. Each one has its unique fighting style and properties, and you’ll have plenty of options to improve them as you level-up. The weapons are divided in Melee and Ranged, and their efficiency in High Damage with Low attack Speed and Low Damage with Fast attack Speed. This gives the player more versatility in terms of the ability to play according to which style he or she prefers.

But watch out - sometimes the enemies may be just too overwhelming for you to defeat with basic attacks! You will need to develop a strategy based around stealth, knowledge of your surroundings or even special items. You’ll need to use all your cunning and strategy to decide on the best approach for each confrontation.

 
  • Gogo – The best friend a girl could have! Suited for melee combat with average stats.
  • Firefly Flask - Area of effect status around Ashlyn which you can cast quickly but have to wait before reusing it. The firefly flask emits a powerful light that stuns all the enemies around Ashlyn and damages dark creatures.

  • Growler (Thunder glove) – Allows for ranged combat with low damage output but fast attack speed. The Growler shoots lightning bolts in a straight line in front of Ashlyn.

In Hush you’ll be experiencing a compelling story with an intricate plot. The game will be divided in chapters and each will explore a different kind of fear: the "Fear of the Dark", "Fear of Thunder" and "Fear of Ghosts".

In the chapter "Fear of the Dark" you will have to navigate through the dark underground floors of the orphanage while avoiding the blind GARMA. You'll need to figure out the best way to navigate through these dark corridors while staying in the well-lit areas. For the climax you will have a confrontation with the mysterious master of shadows LUCIFER, the Cat.

"Fear of Thunder" will pit you against the energetic automatons of the Power House. These are creatures that harvest energy and are highly volatile in nature. Be extra careful with the ongoing storm! This chapter tells the story of Nikolai, the GROUNDSKEEPER of the orphanage whose ambition was to create life. Nikolai built robots from all types of junk that he found in the orphanage and managed to give them life.

Ashlyn will try to find the reason behind the strange things happening in this level, the robots who have been given life… and why thunders bring about such loud noises.

"Fear of Ghosts" will feature the kid turned evil mastermind "Pig-nose Timmy" and his ghostly minions. Through the progression of this chapter you will unveil the true secrets of the orphanage and the reasons behind all the evil occurrences. Beware of the SISTER.

Sound plays a major role in this experience, in order to make fears come alive. You'll be hearing indistinguishable whispers coming from all around you, or the thunder suddenly crumbling through the silence.

You, the player must be ready to face everything that comes in your way, even if you’re unable to see it. The state of your courage throughout the game will also influence the environmental sounds; as in, the whole soundscape is responsive to your behavior. For instance, when you’re in the dark and start to feel afraid, you may start hearing more and more noises, creating a hyper-realistic sound environment where you can’t tell what’s real or what just your imagination is. For sound to react to your actions in the game we are implementing a procedural audio solution.
 
On the soundtrack you can expect some spooky themes, which create suspense and raise your heartbeat. Hellish strings, bone-like marimbas and weeping synthesizers will play catchy melodies that will follow you along your path.
This game we are developing has a rather dark theme, and some of the influences we gathered come from games that worked with similar themes. The first was "Alice: Madness Returns". The environment created for that game sets the tone for visual aesthetics and world design, due to its twisted and surrealistic ambiance. Another major influence came from "Black Lake", with its beautiful storybook-style art.  

The concept-art style of HUSH is based on traditional cartoon drawings, balanced out by the bizarre and twisted world of fears. Through the game you will find all sorts of whimsical and fantastical elements, contrasting with the horror that surrounds you: light bulbs floating in place, gloves that harvest electricity and NPCs that are out of this world.

We are officially developing for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U. 

HUSH is already approved for publishing in the aforementioned platforms, is being developed in the Unity 5 Engine and will also be published on Steam for PC (Windows/Mac/Linux).

FULL RELEASE

HUSH full release will be available for Windows, Mac, Linux, Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One. Win and Mac version will be released first, with Linux following. The full release will be distributed on Steam as well as DRM-free download. Early Access 

EARLY ACCESS will be released on Steam only. Early Access will be available for Win initially, and Mac will be added later. We are considering Linux for Early Access but cannot confirm it at this point.  

DRM FREE Option Confirmed! When the FULL GAME releases, all backers will have the option to choose between a STEAM key or a DRM-Free download. (However, EARLY ACCESS WILL BE STEAM ONLY!)

This project means the world to us, and to make it come to fruition we've already put our heart, soul and personal capital into its development. We've also tried to find other ways to get the funding we need - capital ventures, business angles, among others - but unfortunately we weren't successful.

So, right now, we've reached a point where we need you, the gaming community, to help us so that we can continue developing this game.

With your investment, we'll be able to continue and successfully conclude the production of HUSH. We’ll be able to purchase equipment that’s more advanced, both on the software and hardware fronts, pay our partners, pay for the licensing, and pay the team during the development process, including professional beta testers.

Should we raise funds above our target, it will allow us to develop some of the stretch goal features that we think will enhance the core game. 

As we said before, we've already invested a lot of our time and money, so what we are now asking you to helps us with represents only 60% of the entire budget. Let's break it down and show you how the money will be spent:

HUSH - SPIDER'S DEN - This DLC follows after the ending of the main story in which Ashlyn reaches the orphanage's giant greenhouse. What awaits is her biggest fear yet! Creepy, crawling arachnids… a.k.a. spiders!

HUSH - THE WEST WING DLC -  following the previous adventure "HUSH - Spider's Den", in which Ashlyn climbs to the west wing of the orphanage. Crossing beams at incredible heights, leaping from platform to platform and dealing with vertigo will be the least of your worries.

HUSH - HOLLOWED PAST - After the two previous adventures, Ashlyn goes back to the orphanage, and into the doll's house located in the girls common room. From porcelain to raggedy dolls, Ashlyn has to overcome the challenges ahead and figure out who might be controlling these expressionless foes...

We've gone to great lengths to come up with rewards that enhance your HUSH experience, be it a deeper look into the game world via the art book and soundtrack, or increasing your participation in the game's development by designing the enemies! Also, we've made sure that every tier starting at £30 gets Early Access.

Risks and challenges

Making a game is never an easy undertaking, and developers have to deal with a variety of risks. Here's how we are dealing with each of our own:

FINANCIAL RISK: We have put money into HUSH ourselves, and are fully prepared to do whatever is necessary to reach its completion. We saved prior to the start of development so we could have the chance to make the game that we wanted to make. We wouldn't be asking for your support if we hadn't already put our own skin on the line for this game. With your help we can do it!

SCHEDULE RISK: The completion date for the game is an estimate based upon our experience running similar game projects in the past. Should some features take longer than expected to implement, there is a chance that the completion date could slip a bit. If we feel this is necessary for the good of the game, we promise to be transparent about any date changes and keep you, the backers, informed along the way. Even better: we plan to release the game on Early Access part-way through development, so even if the completion date changes, you'll get hands-on with the game before then.

FUN RISK: Sometimes features end up being less fun than anticipated. This is why we have invested so much time and effort into HUSH *prior* to ever bringing it to Kickstarter, and also why we assembled an experienced team to do this. We wanted to make sure we had something that could be great before asking for your hard-earned money. Your support will help give us the resources to make the game achieve its potential.
