A Sci-Fi dystopian comic with Cyberpunk elements. In the-not-too distant future, VR addiction is rife and consumers struggle with adapting to reality. As hyper-capitalism creeps in, poverty becomes epidemic as addicts struggle to pay for the Corporation's VR Service, for nothing is free... especially your peace of mind!
Hello to new potential backers and welcome back to those that helped make the first issue a reality! This is a campaign to fund a print run (and exclusive offers) of the second issue for Peace of Mind - a 28 printed page, full colour comic.
"The outcasts have abandoned their homes after the VR addict, 57762D, attempted to wirelessly connect to the Corporate Network, attracting the attention of a seemingly hyper intelligent firewall. Running for their lives with the unconscious 57762D in tow, Mickey, Suzy and Leroy attempt to evade the PMC dogging their every footstep."
NOTE: Like last time, reviews tend to come in as the campaign continues, so come back every now and then!
"...this is a really smart and ambitious piece of small press sci-fi that has the potential to be something very special" - Pipedream Comics
We have several tiers with rewards up for grabs, including digital, physical and a mix of both! Based on feedback, we've added more of a variety to the tiers than the last campaign and we've also added a limited supply of the first issue into some tiers.
There are 3-month Comichaus subscriptions included in some of the digital inclusive tiers. If you already have a subscription, these 3 month codes will top up your access! Read up on the Comichaus App here. It is a great place to read indie comics and offers a fair system for small press creators to generate a revenue stream. All of our work is on Comichaus, but PoM #2 won't be released until late April.
What comic Kickstarter campaign would be complete without limited edition A4 prints? We have TWO up for grabs, available both digitally and physically. One is by Emiliano Correa, and the other is done by Bristol based illustrator, Hannah Baber. Take a look at them below, along with Emiliano's stellar cover for this issue:
As of the 20th of January, we are fully funded - thank you all! Below are the stretch goals:
1) Homicidal Holly - Unlocks at £1150 for all reward tiers.
A digital reward. A victim of incessant and violent bullying, Holly's life at school is constantly made more and more hellish by her classmates - an evil little boy named Harvey in particular. But how long can he get away with his reign of terror without consequence? How long before his misdeeds come back around to bite him? How long before Holly reacts in kind? They're about to find out, and for better or worse, they'll both be surprised by the outcome. Homicidal Holly is a 7 page-long mini comic, accompanied by a prologue in the form of a short story and a collection of production work, all of which was written, illustrated, and compiled into this 20 printed page standalone book by Angus Medford (check out his Instagram) - a self taught illustrator and comics artist from the UK.
2) A 58mm Fridge Magnet - Unlocks at £1500 for all physical tier pledgers.
A 58mm Fridge Magnet with the cat design from Peace of Mind #1 by Emiliano Correa.
3) Art Print - Unlocks at £2000 for all physical tier pledgers.
An A4 Art Print by Angus Medford. We'll release the design if we approach the £2000 mark. You can see from the example (the Limited Ed print from the last campaign) that Angus' distinctive style is a must have for all art fans.
Per unit of comic (including backing, bagging and envelope) will cost us £3.25 (at time of writing - this can change). On top of this we have shipping (which varies from £2 to £5, depending on country) and the other rewards which cost a considerable amount - from artist commission to printing. Below, you can see the amount each section of the Kickstarter will cost. As always, these costs can change between the launch of this campaign and the end. Please note that the postage is an estimate, based on data from our last campaign.
NOTE: Tax is the responsibility of the recipient. From our experience, we sent the first issue all over the Americas (Argentina, North America and Canada) and Europe without issue. However, as we've grown, we've decided to open shipping up to more countries (South Africa, Russia and Japan for example). Please be aware that your country may apply an import tax to your pledge.
Grym Comics - Label: Twitter
Grym Comics are a small indie label, who specialise in the weird and wonderful. We were founded in the embers of summer 2017, and have been working behind the scenes to get great comics to you ever since.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!
We recommend Peace of Mind to readers who are young adults and older, due to some dark and suggestive themes.
Risks and challenges
Quite small. The biggest risk stems from the fact that we are a small indie label, so lack the exposure of bigger names - this is our second crowdfunding campaign. All we require are funds enough to cover costs such as printing, Kickstarter fees, distribution, and paying for reward commissions (including the creators involved). The comic is finished in terms of the creative element, and the team has been paid!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
