UPDATE 7/6/16: NEW STRETCH GOAL!
If the project gets funded to £1400 everybody who orders a print version of the comic gets another, brand new, 16pp comic bundled in!
The Intercorstal: 683 is my homage to the comics that I loved as a child and that formed so much of who I am today.
Just, in abstract.
683 is a 36 page comic, and I'd like to get it printed, with your help.
The comic has 5 distinct sequences, each with its own unique style, whilst remaining distinctly 'Intercorstal'. This is to mimic the comic anthologies that got me hooked in as a comic reader as a child, with each issue having a handful of stories running at once, each with a different writer, artist and lettering team.
As to what 'Intercorstal' is... that's kind of hard to explain. I suggest you take a look at the Intercorstal website or its predecessor the Intercorstal blog to get an idea of what I mean. To try and make sense of how I got here, I've prepared a brief history:
Very Brief History Of The Intercorstal
I started work on 'The Intercorstal' by accident in 2008, when a postcard-sized rectangle I'd drawn for a mailart project reminded me of a panel from a comic page, which I then felt compelled to complete. Once I was 6 pages in, I decided that I'd do 96 pages in total, and bundle them up into a book.
When I got to 32 pages I decided to 'Beta Test' what I had by collecting them up as a home-made zine and sending them out to some people who asked for a copy, and also some people who didn't. And then things went sideways, and kept on doing so, in mostly pretty great ways. I was invited to make exhibition-specific editions; I played with found objects and detournement of advertising brochures; developed a technique for reinterpreting other people's comics; exhibited in Germany with a set of pages based on comics written by John Smith; won the 2014 Professional Artist's Window at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival; applied the Intercorstal technique to the film 'To Kill A Mockingbird' the year after that... and a few other weird bits here and there too.
'683', then, is the round up of everything I've learnt so far. And a jumping off point into whatever's coming next.
Here's a page from each sequence, to give an idea of how each is distinct.
The following prints are available to backers. I've made sure that 'After Wainwright' (winner of the 2014 LICAF Window Trail) is included, as it's not been available as a prints up until now. And If you've seen anything else by me that you'd like as a print, let me know and I'll see what I can do!
Riesgos y desafíos
At the time of preparing this Kickstarter, all but three pages are complete, and scanned. All my printing quotes are in, my numbers seem to add up. The rewards are mostly ready to go too, except for any sketches and pages that get pledged. And I have the paper to do those on already, too.
If you have any questions or concerns about this project, or what I'm doing overall, please don't hesitate to contact me via email, Twitter or Kickstarter.Más información sobre el concepto de responsabilidad en Kickstarter
