About Ground UP Productions
“Good natured, down-home FUN!” -The New York Times
“A hootin’ good time!” –Variety
“Consistently Inventive!” –NY Post
Dear all of you AWESOME Kickstarter supporters,
2012 is such an exciting year for Ground UP Productions! This week we started rehearsal for our upcoming world-premiere production of PRATFALLS, by Holly Webber. Ever since its discovery during our New Works Festival in 2011, we have been looking forward to this day. A recipient of the 2008 Playwrights First Award, we could not be more thrilled to be the producing company that will be putting this awesome new comedy on its feet. PRATFALLS runs April 27th- May 19th at the Abingdon Theatre in midtown NYC and will mark Ground UP’s 18th full scale production and 5th world premiere.
The play centers on a down-and-out, middle-aged stand-up comedian and his relationships with his strange neighbors and his unexpected one-night stand. It’s a bit dark, really funny, and touching.
Heading up our cast is Victor Verhaege, who’s performed in other Ground UP productions such as Burn This and Baby with the Bathwater, and if you didn’t see those plays you might recognize him from HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, where he plays Ward Boss Fleming. Pratfalls also features Kate Middleton, Ground UP’s Artistic Director, one of our youngest members, Matthew Baldiga, and Ground UP regular and Broadway's own Amelia White.
The show will be directed by Broadway veteran and TACT’s recently appointed co-Artistic Director Jenn Thompson, who just received rave reviews across the board for Lost In Yonkers.
We are asking you now for support to help fund one of the most important aspects of all Ground UP shows: DESIGN and CONSTRUCTION! With all of our shows, we aim to create a reality in which our audience can completely lose themselves. Anyone who’s seen a Ground UP show can vouch that our sets, lighting and costumes are amazing. However, realizing ideas requires funding.
presents an exciting new opportunity for us to reach out beyond our core
following and to solicit support at all dollar amounts, from people, just like
you! ANYTHING you contribute will help
us. We have just over 15 days to raise $2500 bucks, but If we don't reach that goal we receive nothing So please, get on board this new project from the
ground, up. PRATFALLS will be great, but with your help, we can make this show
Love and thanks,
The Ground UP Team
Check out our prop RUBBER CHICKEN REWARDS for pledges at $25, $50, $100 & $250 levels. There are a limited number of them from the show, so be first!
