The walls of your stone cell are chipped and crumbling, barely held together by the rusted bars of your cage. You are lying upon the cold stone floor, attempting sleep, but your mind cannot stop racing. When the sun rises, you will be out again amongst the sand within the Ludus, wooden sword in hand, training for your life. It is the height of the Roman Empire, this is the time when the world shudders under the blows of the Legion and the bellows of the crowd shake the depths of the Earth from the stands within the Great Colosseum. Sleep finally overcomes you, but it is not restful. Your dreams place sleep at a distance, you are floating above yourself, and the world is shrouded in a red haze. You are standing upon the sands, but they are drenched in blood and surrounded by stands of a roaring audience. Your wooden training sword replaced by the weight of the iron version. You see yourself facing your Lanista and Editor and you project “Those who are about to die, salute you.” Turning now to face your opponent, time slows, sound fades, your eyes close and a prayer to the Gods encompasses your brain as you tighten your grip on your shield and gladius. When your eyelids fling open, a war cry crawls from your lungs, through your diaphragm, and across your vocal cords to escape out of your mouth, only to be muted by the booming roar of the crowd. Your eyes shake from the sound as you charge your opponent. The moment the swords clash, your dream flees and you once again find yourself sitting upright in your cold cell, covered in sweat and shaking from excitement, you know your glory and destiny will soon be at hand. You assume the roll of a gladiator in training. The path of your life has led you here, and whether you are an ex-soldier fighting to relive the past, a slave fighting for your freedom, a wealthy merchant fighting to gain fame and glory or a woman sold into slavery fighting for your life, the beginning of your destiny... is now.
Gladiator: Rise of Legends is a free to download and play strategy role-playing game designed for mobile platforms. iPhone at first, moving to Android next with aspirations to reach social media such as Facebook and Google+. In G: RoL you will assume the role of one of four different Social Classes whom are all now enslaved within your Ludus, where you will attempt to push on to reach the Roman Colosseum and engrave yours and your Ludi name and glory within the annuls of history. On your path to glory, your will be charged with progressing your way through a large amount of Training Tasks, which will bring you to many different scenes and geographies through out the Roman controlled world. The Training Tasks are sculpted around the tree system. Some Training Tasks are optional, but they will assist you when attempting the more difficult, sometimes one shot Tasks. These Tasks will also unfurl the twisting and intriguing plots that will go along with the experience, depending on which decisions you make, the Task branch will alter, also there will be Social Class specific Tasks, all of this creates for potentially different adventures each time you play. However, some Tasks will require certain armament to achieve a success, and as in real life, the different types of weapons and armor are virtually endless.
Added to this is a dynamic structure, G: RoL includes a unique Arena PvP system, where you…well do what Gladiators do best! In the arena you will fight other gladiators, in order to gain experience and coin for your victories. Though, unlike other games in our genre, the outcome of your fight has a great deal of strategy involved; your personal fame entices the crowd, the Ludus you serve offers distinct advantages, your followers themselves hold sway, and of course, the vast array of weaponry and armor.
G:RoL far surpasses everything that predates it. With professional artwork, deeply enticing writing and seamless coding creates a world like none other. Along with a unique progressive quest tree, 100s of different armament with actual strategic and tactical meaning, inventive Ludus guild system, a dynamic combat system and much more.
We seek to shatter the glass ceiling for this game genre, and with our team, we know it will be done.
This is a self-funded game being developed by a group of friends who have the skills and the desire to make a better game for this genre. The amazing art, writing, development and promotion is all funded from our own pockets, our love for great games, and our vision of G: RoL quickly making an impact and raising the bar for all others in the strategy role-playing field.
Your support is invaluable and allows us to make this game even better day by day. From the rewards to the amazing art, the development, database servers, and all the details that allow great games to come alive, is funded through friends like YOU.
First off, the amazing art of Rob Joseph, with limited edition prints is a large portion of our rewards, but we also have T-Shirts, in-game titles and unique items, a specially crafted Gladius USB stick, and a leather-bound journal, telling the story of Victorinus in his rise to glory, the Rise of a Legend, containing an original story line and art. At the top tier, we also give you the opportunity to have your depiction drawn as one of the main Follower art pieces for the game along with sending you a single print signed edition of the art.
When we sat down to create this game, our focus was to address the issues that are seen in the games we played and loved within this genre. We ran some surveys, talked to countless gamers in the area, and came up with the concept for G: RoL from this. Now we want to involve YOU! We love hearing ideas and concepts for strategy role-playing games that target the mobile and social media environments. Feel free to leave your comments, as they will help us develop the future of G: RoL and games forthcoming. We thank you all and appreciate the support!
